Just whatever you would normally take on a flying holiday - a mix of cabin luggage and hold luggage. If you choose what you take with you carefully you won't need too much luggage! Well the girl in the villa next to us wore one bikini and one sarong for the whole week, so basically she could pack all her clothes in a handbag! You'll probably need a little more than this, a couple of T-shirts, some shorts, maybe a thin, cool dress or trousers. Take clothes that will be cool to wear. Check what the resort you are staying at requires you to wear in the restaurants. Loads of sunscreen. We used factor 35 for a full 2 weeks. Basically you're gonna be out in the sun for most of your holiday, so just be sensible about it.We took an emegency hypodermic & transfusion kit with us (remember, Maldives is basically a 3rd world country outside of the resorts) but hopefully you'll never need...

use a soft bag better than an unflexible suitcase, because it'll have to fit somehow in your cabin the usual things for swimming, diving, sunbathing seasickness tablets, clogged sinuses tabletts (Sudafed), iodine, BOOKS. if you have a sweet tooth bring some nibbles.

Small and light overnight bag like I did. You don't need to ckeck in your luggage, so no chance of it getting lost. I wonder what people take in huge suitcases to a tropical island where you don't even need to wear shoes... 3 dresses, shorts and 2 tops, 4 bikinis, knickers, sandals and mules. Trousers, top and short sleeved linen shirt, which doubles as a jacket for the flight. Useful when visiting local islands because you need to cover your shoulders. I got two sarongs on my shopping trips, and that's it... I took insect reppelent, cream for stings and bites, which I didn't need. Lots of tanning lotion because I tan easily but even in my case I spent most of the first week in the shade. Spashed out in the last days, of course...If your skin is sensitive or white take a high protection sun tan lotion. For children I would recomend wearing a t-shirt or all in one bathing suit. I took...

Insect Repellent, the strong good kind as you may need it. If not there is usually good stuff available on the islands in their shops, but this is one not to go without.....

SNORKELLING EQUIPMENT

by steveandmich

Take your own equipment as you will pay to hire for a week what it costs to buy a decent set in the UK. Underwater cameras are a must take.

Protect your feet!

by JoinBG

A pair of plastic shoes or diving boots are advisable even if you are just snorkeling or walking in the water. There are many fragments of corals which are very sharp and will cut your feet.
