This doesn't apply in the Maldives. Each island is a self contained resort. On both islands we stayed on there was a large thatched area for dining in. Reethi Rah was waiter service of a set meal, whereas Meeru was a nightly help yourself buffet. Both islands also had a separate, smaller thatched area which provided a lunch time snack. One of the nice touches at Reethi was a once a week evening meal when they transferred all of the dining tables onto the beach. It made dinner time extra special. Take a look up into the rafters of the thatched dining area, you may see what the travel reps tell you are 'Palm Mice'. They are in fact, big fat rats, but don't worry, they're more afraid of you than you are them, and they won't come near you.
Vegetarians beware. Though the chef tried to be helpful, I dined on spagetti with either tomato ketchup or lime pickle practically every night at Meeru (mind you, you'll eat almost anything with gusto after a day's diving). From memory, it wasn't quite so bad at Reethi, but don't imagine that you'll be fed well unless you're prepared to eat fish. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: You can't miss the dining areas as you can walk around all of the majority of islands in 15 mins or so!Other Contact: We travelled with Kuoni to Reeth

by steventilly Well it's a little bit like 'hobson's choice' on your resort Island. There won't be a great many places to eat - on Meeru there were three. All meals that are included in the price of your holiday are served in the Main Restaurant. On Meeru this was a round, thatched building with an open, conical centre. All meals were 'buffet style', with everything arranged around the central area and all dishes repeated 3 times around this serving area, so there was never really any bad queuing. The style of the building, with it's open roof and vegetation growing in the centre.
Where do I start! A variety of Thai and Indian style rice dishes (Pilau, rice with chillie & lemon grass, fried rice with oriental vegetables and so on) A whole host of vegetarian curries, some with vegetables, some with fruits, in both Indian (usually mild like Korma) or Thai (like Red curry) styles Once a week an 'Italian Buffet' where all dishes have an Italian theme, with pasta, gnocchi, tiramisu and so on 'Maldivian Buffet', where all dishes are Maldive style, so largely curries, with the option of 'Chicken & Chips' for the unadventurous Soups Salads Deserts - oh boy, the deserts! by jguffey On an atoll you don't travel far for meals. Breakfast was served in an open air (but roofed) restaurant. Lunch was sometimes on the beach. Dinner was in both places. Best part was even the covered area had a sand floor so you never wore shoes although there were linen napkins and crystal wine glasses on the tables. The sand on the floor made it a hi with everyone. People 'dressed' in casual/elegant resort clothes for dinner but were barefoot. Some did not dress casual/elegant but wore shorts and shirts. They were welcome as well. One great thing: even though each table was occupied, it was quiet and you could hear the lovely background music played softly. It was very much a couples place and couples kept to themselves for meals.
Breakfast buffet included for me (daily): fresh mango juice, smoked salmon, croissants, and French press coffee. One night for dinner the chef served kangaroo filet - very rare. It was good. Tasted much like ostrich which I have eaten in South Africa. by sonnen_blume it's not an restaurant tip, actually - but has to do with food and drink: ---------- if you book for liveaboard be aware that FISH will be your main food at all times. if you don't like fish and other seafood, make arrangements with the company before you reach them. shopping is not exactly an easy task on the Maledives. be prepared to have to spend between 15,- and 20,- US dollars PER DAY for softdrinks and drinking water. Coconuts on a tree by dtamas Who need restaurants if there are coconut trees - full of yummy-yummy coconuts smiling up there - everywhere. The only difficulty is to open up the nut. Of course you can ask one of the staff, but don't believe it's just as easy as they do it in matter of seconds... Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by elmasri The Asian Wok (see picture) just for its location because the main restaurant served more food. Main restaurant - you are assigned with a table and waiter for the duration of your holiday, which makes it easy to tip at the end of the week. A $10 per couple, in my case per person, will do. Dhoni Bar - Here is where you go for drinks all day and evening. It's located by the pool and it also serves light meals. I liked the chicken in a basket and chicken and cheese toast, although you can have burgers (not my cup of tea) and steak amongst other items. Most drinks are $3 and cocktails $7. My favourites: Fresh Mango juice. I tried the milk shakes and cocktails but the mango juice was the best. Asian Wok - This delightful restaurant is located right on the beach, my favourite beach may I add, and serves salads, burgers, grilled prawns, etc. In the evenings they also have lobster but beware it's frozen most of the time. Wait for the fresh ones at the Dhoni Bar.
Fresh Lobster on the beach at the Dhoni Restaurant. Very romantic even alone! I was determined to treat myself so I tried everything even coconut just fallen from the tree outside my room. One of the employees who work there open it for me - yamm! Gorgeous! Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Meeru Island Resort - North Atoll - Maldives

Generally, one eats at ones' resort or at another resort. When we were there, we only found 2 restaurants in the capital. Fresh and varied.
