Swimming with the sharks

by LisaMJ

There are lots of baby sharks in the Maldives. We went snorkelling with them, and at first they were very nervous and swam away from us quickly, but after a while we were quite interesting to them it seems, and they came quite close. The underwater shots show how close! They are harmless by the way!

Get your own snorkelling gear....

by LisaMJ

There is some great snorkelling to be done in the Maldives, in all the countries we have visited, we saw by far the most amount of underwater life in the Maldives. A couple of pictures below in my travelogue will be added.I feel it's much better to have your own snorelling gear. Even though you can borrow it, and it's disinfected, the snorkel will still have been in a number of peoples mouths before you! Plus, masks can be quite unique so get your own one which fits well. Mine is a prescription mask which is a good idea, because some days I didn't always want to put my contact lenses in to use with my regular mask.

Scuba Diving

by ratherton

The Maldives is one of the best places in the world to go scuba diving. Virtually every resort has their own dive schools. They cater from all levels of divers. If you aren't qualified you will also be able to take a course or or trial dive on the house reef. Personally, I always try to use my own gear when diving but you can hire everything you need at any of the dive centres

Polka-dotted clams and feathered fish

by Quero

A good number of people who travel to the Maldives take advantage of the spectacular underwater scenery by way of snorkeling or scuba diving. The snorkeling is magnificent. Every resort has a "house reef" that is home to hundreds of kinds of animals ranging from colorful little reef fish of the type you see in aquariums to stingrays, moray eels, parrotfish, triggerfish, unicornfish and other sea creatures. The diving is even better than the snorkeling in terms of the kinds and variety of marine life you can see, with the added possibility of doing night dives to spot nocturnal fish. The photo shows a feathery lionfish (but don't touch; it's venomous!). The clam stars in a travelogue. As with most established dive centers, you can rent every bit of equipment you need right there. But if you have your own fins, mask, and regulator, it's always a good idea to bring them. Dive computers are...

Villivaru - Biyadoo: jogging

by mauro_pd

Ok, if u really r one of these tough guys (ladies) always keen on being tired for something then you'll enjoy a lot jogging on these islands. Some crazy people measured the island round-trip and they put indications like this ... not for me please, not for me :-)))

Sports facilities

by Gard

One of the reasons why we thought Sun Island was appealing was the fact that it has quite a lot of facilities on the island. I enjoy playing a bit of squash and there is on squash court located in the lobby area. In the sports center we also found two badminton courts, a few table tennis tables, and a gym where you could lift weights etc. They even had aerobics classes in the evening. All of this was included in our all inclusive deal so it was just a matter of booking a court. I had brought along my squash racket but that was not really necessary because they had pretty good rackets for rent there. I soon found a squash partner too so I got to play a bit of squash while we were on the island. The only problem for me was that the squash court was inside but with no air condition. And let me tell you…playing squash when it is 30 degrees is a hot affair :-). I don’t think that I have ever...

Snorkelling Heaven

by Sally01

We never tried SCUBA Diving in the Maldives as we do not currently have the certificate, and to be honest we didn't fancy paying out loads for the training while we were there. We did however do LOADS of snorkelling, and although it's not quite the same as SCUBA, it's still a wonderful experience. The sealife in the Maldives is amazing, and you can get some fantasic photo's. We took a couple of disposable underwater camera's, and managed to get a great photo of a ray. Unfortunately I do not have a scanner so I can't put it on this page :(Hopefully I'll get some great digital photo's when I go in April as we've just got underwater housing for our camera! I would advise anyone to buy their snorkel equipment before they go to the Maldives, as it can be very expensive to buy from your resort. Some resorts will hire the snorkel equipment free of charge though, so you would have to check with...

go on give it a try

by DOUGALSMUM

If the idea of lying on a beach all day bores you sensless then kuredu is the island for you. Not only is there an excellent 5 star padi scuba diving school- which also offers snorkelling lessons and an array of different snorkelling tours, but there is also the excellent H20 water sports centre where you can learn to windsurf, water ski, wakeboard, catamaran sail, go on banana rides- hire canoes etc etc..... you get my drift YOU WILL NOT BE BORED, if you are really lucky you will get the inimitable Zoran to teach you- he is a real larger than life character- you will know him when you see him. All equipement can be hired in resort, there is no need to lug anything half way around the world!

jump right in- the waters lovely

by DOUGALSMUM

If you have always wanted to learn to scuba dive you will not find anywhere better than the maldives. All resort islands have padi registered diving schools with excellent tuition. at the very least you must try the snorkelling- the equipement can be hired on all resorts.

U should join "matriculation" class first!

by Perucha

Whatever ur certificate is, either u have done 5 times or hundred times of diving, u should go for the "matriculation" class first. It's good to refresh ur memory but they charge u the same 50 USD like normal diving! And of course it's only in the house reef where u see nothing spectacular whatsoever. Mask clearing, buddy breathing, etc...were on the "curriculum".Good to know that the next dive was good! I saw Manta Rays! Visibility was good, water was warm too. U can always rent the equipment if u don't bring any. And if u do, it cost u less 5 USD only.
