Snokerling and Diving

by shawncastellino

It is true that the maldives offer the best diving sites in the world, a great place for those having a PADI certificate or for those who just want to snorkel, we had taken a 2 hr snorkerling trip offered by the island, they take us by Dhoni a local motor boat to a place abt 10 mins from the island for snokerling. The view was Ok nothing great, i would say the snokerling in Phuket was much betterI am sure that there are better sites in Maldives but the Hotel would take us to the nearest spot as it would make more economic sense to do it. The cost of this trip was USD 35 pp

Water Sports

by shawncastellino

Umm if you like water sports then maldives is the place to be, if you get bored swimming in the tourquie lagoon and swimming pool, then one can try the para sailing, water sking, bannana boat ride and numerous other rides, the islands offer such facility for a charge, if you have experienced the thrills of these activities at destinations like thailand, bali, maritius etc then dont opt for it as it would be much costlier to do the same in Maldives

THE STINGRAY

by DAO

If you step on one of these guys, you will find out why part of their name is ‘sting’. These almost flat fish are amazing and gracefully glide through shallow clear water so you can see them. Unfortunately they also land in the sand and manage to cover themselves quickly & effectively – so watch your step! They can grow to be up to 1 meter across and 2 meters long from ‘nose’ to poisonous tail. They have a barbed spine at the end of the tail they use to attack. They are able to strike both upward and forward, hence the warning about stepping on them. Many resorts have a feeding time for large stingrays at the same time each night. These amazing fish know how to keep time and will never let you down.In rare cases their sting can be fatal and the venom stays in the spine even after they die!

WESTERN WHITE WHALE WATCHING

by DAO

The (not so) rare Western White Whale lives a sedentary existence most of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, mostly the Americas and Europe. It actively avoids the sun and physical activity whilst eating virtually continuously. Just prior to several rapid migrations to areas closer to the Equator, they will actually reduce food intake for 1-2 weeks.Upon arrival in sun blessed areas like the Maldives, these shy retiring creatures burst into unusual physical activities, sometimes healthy eating and display plumage not revealed during their sustained periods of inactivity in colder areas.Although they are not an endangered species and definitely over breed, it is illegal to harpoon them in the Maldives. Often develop a painful red colour during their migration.

TAKE PICTURES FROM THE SEAPLANE

by DAO

Whatever you do - do not pack your camera in your luggage! You will never get the chance again. The seaplane transfer to any resort is the ultimate photo opportunity of a lifetime. No where else on earth is the same beautiful blue as the sea and islands of the Maldives. Make sure your batteries are fully charged and you have a large memory card!

PLAN AHEAD - A FEW PRACTICALITIES

by DAO

The Maldives is far away, a holiday of a lifetime and there are no stores. So you need to plan well. Start with the resort. Make sure that it’s not a new one being built now or being remodelled. Each resort is based on a small island. ANY construction activity in resort will spoil your holiday or honeymoon. If you are diving (or thinking about it) then contact the resort to ask what equipment they have so you can pack the equipment you need. If you need a prescription dive mask ask if they rent tem or buy one using the link below. ). I bought my mask from them and it worked brilliantly. Check, double check and check again your clothes and toiletries. You can get laundry done I resort, but clothes shopping is limited to swimwear when you get here. Sunscreen is sold here, but cost more than buying gold (almost). When you have booked get the telephone number of your resort and leave it with...

TOURIST VISAS & IMMUNISATIONS

by DAO

You will probably not believe what you are about to read. No one, no nationality, absolutely no passort holder needs a Visa to get into the Maldives. This must be the most Tourist friendly country and border in the world. The Maldives authorities seem to have the theory that if you can afford to get here and stay in a resort, that you have the financial ability to return home. Also I don’t think any hotel is going to let you overstay your welcome. You also do not need any immunisations, malaria tablets or mosquito repellent. The Maldives is remarkably disease free and a healthy place to visit. All you need is high factor sun screen. They do require a Yellow Fever certificate if your are travelling here from a Yellow Fever area. This is an international standard.

spa...

by erikute3534

I am not very crazy about spa's but of course like everybody - like to be pampered little sometimes. We booked package for 2 (was cheaper! 'only' 600usd). Oh, well, it was expensive but cheaper!then going separate. We could use spa ALL day! can go earlier and use all facilities - have quiet time alone, use some products for FREE like -put mask on your hair:) use steam room, or just lay near the pool with tea or juice.. ok ok, its boring?? not at all! just RELAX !! that was the idea! anyway, we had a villa! for ourselves with 2 ladies that did all the treatments. and oh dear.. that was sooo good! they started with feet masssage, then let us change, we ordered lunch(not included in the price!) and our teas/juices/smoothies that was included in the price.. The treatments were PERFECT after that, they filled us bath with some flowers. was sooo niceeee and sun was about to go down, so we set...
