Stingray feeding.

by a5floor

Next to the bar there is a place were there is stringray feeding. A guy from the resort goes in the water with a basket of food and feeds them. The feeding is from 6.30pm till 7pm every day. Because this is happening on a daily basis, the stingrays know this. So, they are coming back every day. And they are fighting for the food...A heron is joining the club as well. Some other fish too.

Beaches part I.

by a5floor

At Kuramathi Island you have different beaches. One is the sand bank. It is located at the end of the island. There are no trees to give shade. Only the sun is present here. From here you will have great views of sunsets. Other beaches are all over the island. All the beaches have great views over the blue water. So, pick yours and lay down...

Walking around the island.

by a5floor

On the island of Kuramathi you can walk a route. This is just one route and it goes around the island. The route lasts for about 35 minutes. During this walk you will have great views. The route is on sand. So, some parts of the route you can walk on your barefeet. I did it as well and it feels so nice. To have the sand between your toes...

Sharks.

by a5floor

There could be sharks swimming around at the Maldives. But you hardly see them. The only sharks that are swimmin nearby (close to the beach) are these white ones with 2 black spots (tail and fin). These sharks won't harm you because they will swim away when you enter the water. Unless you are harming these sharks...

See the fish in the water.

by a5floor

In the water you will find different kind of fish. If you are snorkling you can see them swimming around you. Or if you just swim, they are coming close by as well. Even the tiny fish will 'touch' you.I saw one 'crazy' fish. When this fish is swimming by and he notices you, he is going to swim on his side. And he will look at you with his big eyes. The first picture I have added, is this fish. Does anybody know the name of this fish?

Palmtrees.

by a5floor

When you think of the Maldives, one of the things you came up with are palmtrees. At Khuramathi Island you will find palmtrees everywhere. It is nice to see them. And really great to hear is the wind going through the leaves... :)

Good islands for Snorkelling in the Maldives

by HEB

Try Reethi beach resort or if you prefer a larger island try Kuredu.Fihalhohi is good and I am hoping to do to Vilamendhoo as it was recommended to us by divers when on Reethi last year. Bandos also has a v good house reef and if you are on a tight budget so does Embudu.Reethi was the best for me, as we went in October 07 and managed to finally snorkel with Manta's....first time in 6 visits to the Maldives. The dive team run various snorkelling trips for approx $20pp for half a day.RgdsH.

Snorkelling

by trevndebs

We just returned from Fihalhohi resort, the house reef there is the best I've seen. Some points it starts about 20 feet from the shore and has Baby black tips, Morays, Parrots, Eagle rays, Puffers, Octopus and all the schooling fishes, you can snorkel pretty much three quarters of the way round the island. The island is about 50 minutes by speedboat from Male.

SNORKELING

by DAO

Snorkeling is a fantastic and fun activity here in the Maldives. It also requires little equipment. Because all the resort islands have shallow areas of the ocean you can do this safely from the comfort of the beach just out front. You will also get a chance to see loads of beautifully co loured fish without the expense and time of a scuba dive. ALL resorts can ret you a snorkel, mask and fins cheaply so you don’t have to pack these bulky items in your suitcase. Please wear a T-shirt when you are snokeling! I have permanent skin damage my back because I didn’t.

CORAL REEFS

by DAO

The coral reefs of the Maldives are an amazing living community just below the waves. Coral is a living marine polyp that lives in vast colonies. It has a hard outer shell which creates the brittle mass of the coral reef. The polyps keep growing so the reef will expand, but very slowly. Unfortunately pollution or even changes in water temperature can damage huge areas that will take decades to grow back. Careless divers and fisherman can also cause havoc.
