The Swimming pool and the park around it

by Fam.Rauca

The Swimming pool and the park around is a comfortable place, where you can spend your time. Here, you can swim, or you can sit in a comfortable chair at the bar.You have the possibility to take a sunbath and to relax in a magnificent atmosphere. The water in pool is clean and it has a wonderfully colour. In the evening and in the night, the numerous lamps next to the palms and the bushes create a magical ambiance

Just for fun!

by STEWMASS

If you want a real laugh and give your friend or family member a real fright, follow the following tip:1. Grab a piece (or two) of bread from the bresakfast table.2. Wait for your "victim" to go snorkelling with the fishies.3. When they are in amongst a group of fish, lob the bread in front of their head.4. The fish all dart towards the bread .......5. Look innocent when they get real fright and look up after thinking they were about to be attacked.Even better if you get it on video and when you lob from a jetty you get a better view. Perhaps do a couple of practice runs just to get the fish excited. I found it amazing that these fish could actually see the bread fly through the air and arrived at the spot where the bread would land before the bread! Great fun.

Night Fishing Trip.

by STEWMASS

A good way to pass 3 or 4 hours is to partake in a night fishing trip just off your chosen island. During the course of our trip we saw a varied selection of fish being caught with the hand lines we were given. The most memorable part of the evening was seeing half eaten fish being landed. These fish had obviously been eaten by feeding sharks just below the surface!

Day Trip to the capital - Male.

by STEWMASS

Should your chosen island belong to the North or South Male Atoll, it may be an idea to spend a day sightseeing at the capital of the Maldives. Our island, Laguna Beach was located on the south Male Atoll and was only approx 45 minutes boat ride at 28 knots from Male. The trip was organised by our island and on arrival at Male, we had approx. 4 to 5 hours worth of sightseeing which was probably enough to get a feel for life in the capital.First of all we were given a guided tour of the Botanical Park which allegedly has the highest point above sea level in the whole of the Maldives at 8ft! Hmm, not sure if it is true? We also visited the Grand Mosque where all visitors must respect the religion of Islam and remove their socks and shoes before entering. It was also necessary for me to cover my legs. We also had time to visit the local fishmarket which was a real hive of activity with fresh...

City Life

by Emichelle

Very few tourists even touch Male as they go direct from the Airport to their respective resorts. I Suggest a half a days visit to Male, the capital of Maldives and witness what life is there. At times you feel as if your Guiliver, cause everything is so small.

Dining Out.

by Emichelle

You get some nice peaceful restaurants where you can grab a meal or have a cup of coffee. No particular restaurant, you just walk around and pick one out. Some of them I've been to is Dine mor, Dine & Dine out side I always try to eat what the locals eat but in Male most of the dishes are influenced by Indian, Sri Lankan, Pakistani or Bangladeshi dishes and most Maldivian dishes will be a combination. Tuna is very popular in the Maldives. !!

Rounding.

by Emichelle

One of the most famous things the Maldivians do in the evening is rounding. The locals get back after work ( Specially the young crowd.) Get into a nice outfit and walk, ride or drive around the city to spend time and meet up with friends. After a couple of hours this way they will get back to their homes. Good excercise though !!!

Fisherman's island

by PALLINA

Before going there, I wondered why every person been on the Maldives went to the fischerman's island. Every touristy atoll has one or two untouristy islands where the locals live. Perhaps they take every morning a boat to the touristy island to go to work. Of course they aren't so nice and they do not have such a post-card's view but I think the fischerman's island of the atoll you are going to visit is anyway worhtseeing, at least to see how and where Maldivians actually live. The one I went had no beaches at all but a mosque and a primary school. People were friendly, rather used to visits of tourist on that day of the week and willing to speak with you. Children loved to be taken smiling into a pic, like every child in the world.

Snorkeling and/or diving (part 2)

by BarbieGirl

I still cannot find the words to describe what an amazing experience it has been. (I must admit I was a bit scared at the beginning without any reason.....but it was so strange to see the manta with my eyes and not on a tv's documentary). Anyway we have been lucky as the day of our excursion we had the opportunity to see lots of Mantas.....swimming all around you.....they are also called sea's angels.....they are completely innocuous, only remember of tryin' not to touch them as theis skin is very delicated......and you might hurt them.....All you need is to bring a camera with you, a mask and a pair of pins (believe me they're are necessary due to the strong flowing)....and then enjoy this unique experience!
