Before booking your holiday to the Maldives check brochure prices and compare with booking flights and hotels yourself on the Internet. Savings can be made I saved upto £700 on brochure price for 2 people.
The flight was 11 hours, we flew back with air2000(Aitours internaional)....and we had four good films on the journey home!! Much better than the flight out with MonarchThe airport is super...Its on its own island and must be unique ...(you can't get there by car, coach, train, foot etc)..the only way is by boat..or another plane!!The speedboat trip to Meeru was great..only because we grabbed two of the six seats outside on the rear of the boat..much better than sitting in the hot cabin..the journey only took 50 minutes.

With airlines. From switzerland, with 'edekweiss' which fly there twice a week. From switzerland or from UK you can fly with Emirex, which is by the way, maybe the best company which i flew with. A good span better than singapur airlines.Allf lights go to Male. from there : if u have chossen an island 'close' to male (north atoll, like Iuhuru u take the speed home (reservetion are automatically done from your country bevcause u buy the trip to the island, not just to Male. For the islands which are far away, especially in the ari atoll, you fly with a small plane which can land in the water.always with boat. Allt he islands have more than one, for diving or just to visit ore island.U can also have a dining alone on a desert island or on a smal sandstripe in middle of the water, far away from other islands. (This is surly possible from Iuhuru, but it will cost you a lot of money (about...

fly in to male.. that's the easiest way.. :) then move on to the island that you decide to go to..maldives is made out of tiny islands.. therefore most of the time, you'll need to get across waters.. for short distances, the easiest and cheapest way will be the dhoni.. it's this wide wooden boat that moves rather slowly.. for longer distances, take the maldivian air taxi.. quite expensive.. but it's pretty cool.. landing on water and all.. an experience.. :o)

We started from Hungary. One plane to Frankfurt (Germany - 2 hours), one plane to Colombo (Sri-Lanka - 10 hours) one plane to Maldives (2 hours) and one speedboat to Paradise Island (about 45 minutes). It was quite long because of waiting for transfer (5-6 hours each!)dhoni (small traditional boat) with speed:))

Well you pretty much have to fly to the Maldives, and then from the main airport you need to be transfered to your chosen resport. For Ari Beach it's well worth getting a Seaplane tranfer for about $100 each return. It takes 30mins instead of the 3 hour boat transfer and you get to see so many islands from the air. Take your camera! The heliport on Ari Beach is no longer used and there are new jetties for the seaplane to 'dock' to. No more jumping from the plane to the beach.

BOATSThe only transport available in Maldives is BOATS. As everything in maldives, they are expensive, but hotels normally offer transfers in groups to Male at fixed hours. Visitors with confirmed reservations are normally met on arrival at the airport and transferred by boat, helicopter or sea-plane to the resort island of their choice. There is no regular inter-island transportation system between inhabited islands. The ad hoc transportation system is serviced mainly by local boats called Dhoni or Baththeli average a speed of about 8 miles per hour. A large number of dhonis plow the Male International Airport and Male route as ferries. Dhonis and even modern speed boats are also available for hire. Air Maldives the national carrier, operaters regular flights to the domestic airport at Hanimaadhoo, Kadhdhoo, Kaadedhdhoo and Gan.

onward transport either by boat (dhoni or speedboat) or plane to tourist resorts.dhoni-boat airport-male is US$ 1 per person one waytransportation to tourist resorts mostly organized by resorts themselves - prices rather high! travel inbetween islands: mostly you have to travel via Male airport, thats the central point.from 'new harbour' in you also can take boats - supply-dhonis - to different islands.
most people arrive by plane at Male airportmostly charter flights going to Male, like LTU, Condor (from Germany), Monach (from Great Britain), Edelweiss Air (from Switzerland) and some others more.scheduled flights: AUSTRIAN AIRLINES (Vienna-Dubai-Male)Emirates Airlines, Malaysian, Singapore Airlines and Sri Lankan
