Crystal clear water, lovely beaches, coral reefs and amazing marine life
Restricted to just the island resort you stay
In a nutshell
a once in a lifetime experience, im glad to have had the chance!
If you're staying only in Male', you can still easily wander around the few neighboring islands. Firstly, of course Hulhule where the airport is built on. Second, Vilingili island, located to the west of Male'. This is my favorite. It's about 30 minutes away by slow boat and cost only R15 one way. It's just another small island but many many times...more
North Male Atoll, PO Box 2017, Male
Good for: Business
The touts are still on the prowl in Male, though perhaps none more unsavoury (in Male or anywhere for that matter) than the rapacious individual who claims to run the Antique & Style Souvenir Mart mentioned by globetrott. This man harrassed us throughout our day in Male, accosting us every time we dared set foot in the main square area of town. The...more
You are in the Maldives so it is a bit criminal not to have a peek underwater, it's so lovely down there! There is a dive centre on the island so you can learn to dive there or dive, dive, dive if you are already qualified. The house reef is very good. There is even a small wreck near the jetty and this can be done from shore. The Kuredu Express is a...more
There is a spa on Kuredu and it looks fab. The treatment rooms overlook the sea and have a real luxury feel about them. So if you feel like a bit of pampering, then go fo it.A word of warning: prices are on the steep side. Probably slightly more expensive than in your average London salon.Example in Nov 09: full Swedish body massage was $96.more
The majority of the accommodation is located approimately 10 to 15 minutes walk away from the restaurants and bars. You are not permitted to take glasses out of bars ( they will not provide paper or plastic cups). So if you are relaxing on the beach at your bungalow and would like a drink you have to go to the bar or use you mini bar and this is...more
Recent travellers have informed me about the greatest thingd to do on Naifaru, one of the developed cities on Maldives.1. The reclamation area looks like a dessert with huge piles of sand mountains and is a great place to go with kids. They will love it.2. A great variety of shops all over gives you anything needed. You can even order. Self service...more

Back packs are ideal. Do not bring too much luggage. Keep this factor in mind that all transportation is through motor or speed boat. Bring beach sandals. Shorts and t-shirts are also required. Bring your medicines with you on the safe side. Sun burn cream is a must. It would be better if you bring toiletries with you. Otherwise you may have to...more

During our day trip to the local island of Thulusdhoo in November 2013, our guide explained to us how the local population display their political allegiance by painting the exterior walls of their homes.
This might include the logo of their chosen party, the colours of their favoured party or, in most cases, a number which signifies the political party that they voted for in the recent elections.
It was quite common to see two or three homes next to each other, each one supporting a different political party.
This makes for some very colourful streets on the island!
There is a nightly fish feeding session on the island of Hudhuranfushi. It takes place each evening at 9:00pm on the main arrival jetty. It tends to attract a large crowd and you will find yourself jostling with other tourists who are all trying to get the best vantage point for photographing and videoing the show. The lack of light doesn't make for...more
Goalhi No. 3 Majeedhee Baazaaru,
Satisfaction: Very Good
Good for: Couples
Evenings in the Maldives tend to be fairly low key and the island of Hudhuranfushi is no exception. As such, the nightly fish feeding session which takes place each evening at 9:00pm on the main arrival jetty, draws a large crowd of spectators. We went along to watch on a couple of evenings during our week long stay in November 2013.The feeding...more
Bathala is an island sold exclusively by an Italian tour Operator: Azemar, so the vacations are all-inclsive and therefore in the price transport from Male to Bathala is included. You can choose to get there by boat or by sea-plane.If you go by boat, be prepared for a rather long trip: it is almost 2 hours by fast-boat. And if the sea is rough, it...more
Snorkeling is how I spent my days in the Maldives - possibly I spent more time with my head underwater than overwater. The colours of the fishes near the reef - and the variety - was simple endless and unbelievable: I wish I knew the English names for them. My favourite, however, is the baby batfish in the picture: it stayed all its time under the...more
