Take care in the Sun
Take care in the Sun. It is hot. I read a tip about using PF20, so gave it a go. It worked. If you are going snorkelling or kayaking for a long period of time, wear a T-Shirt.I saw people returning with very red sunburnt backs.

Beware of falling coconuts. They choose their own time to fall. If you hear a load crack, it's sure to be followed by a thud as the coconut hits the ground. Don't have the sunbed under a palm tree. A 5 pound coconut can do quite a bit of damage falling from a 50 foot tall palm tree.Plus side is, you get to keep the coconut. All you do is then get the nut out of the husk. Not an easy task, but well worth it.

Make sure you wash your ears in fresh water after snorkelling or diving otherwise the plankton can cause painful ear infection. A couple of people had this when we were there and they were very uncomfortable. We however made sure we washed ears religiously and had no problems whatsoever!Take some cotton buds with you also!
Beware of the sun especially when in the sea snorkelling. You are only a few degrees away from the equator and high factor sun screen is strongly recommended. You will still get a nice tan don't worry!!

When snorkelling if you feel something like lots of stinging nettle stings, don't panic. It's only stinging plantus (I don't know how you spell that!!) Anyway, don't panic, just make sure you wash your ears out properly after as they can get inside your ears and caus infections.
Due to the humid climate, there is considerable risk of damage to leather goods, woolens, films and books. Mold is quick to form. So airing articles in the sun, storing them in air-conditioned rooms or in cupboards will keep damage to a minimum. Another danger: Coconuts falling on your head! And you changing your name to Robinson Cruzu and never going back! (I believe it has happened to a few so watch out!) :)Prohibited by law to bring alcohol into Maldives because it is an Islamic republic. However, alcoholic beverages are legally available to tourists on resort islands!!

When you enter the country by boat make sure that you register with immigration somewhere because, if you want to leave the country by plane afterwards and you don't have an entry-visa stamp in your passport you will have lots of problems before they let you go.

It is absolutely forbidden to import alcohol, erotic magazines as well as whatever is 'against islamic religion' (such as f.i. buddha statues). Don't try to hide anything, they'll find it anyway. Just hand in what you're not allowed to import. You will get a voucher in return and when you leave the country you simply collect your belongings at a special counter.

Don't go to the Maldives if you don't dive and can't sit still for longer than 10 minutes! There's not much to do on the islands so you can get bored. We didn't dive but with snorkling, reading and swimming we made it through our days. Also watch out for the sun, use a good sunlotion because you burn easily there.
VERY STRICT ON ANY SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MATERIAL I.E MAGAZINES, SEX TOYS, VIDEOS ETC. MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN YOUR EARS OUT WITH CLEAN WATER AFTER BEING IN THE SEA AS CAN GET INFECTED VERY EASILY. LOTS OF SHARP CORAL SO WATCH YOU FEET.AND DON'T GET CAUGHT TAKING ANY CORAL HOME (BIG FINES)Fishing was very good too, it took me ages to land this baby but was well worth the wait, tasted lovely!!
