These are some photos of the other ruins found on the site where the Kul Tigin inscription monument was found. The ruins were all covered by plastic sheeting so a couple of the workers building the new museum helped us uncover them so we could take a look and take photos.
A new museum building is being built here with money from the Turkish government who also funded for the new road to be built between this point and Harhorin. The building was still being built when we visited but we were lucky enough to visit inside where they have a few more large inscription monuments and other ruins found on the site.
I'm not entirely sure where this place is but we stopped here on our way from Ogii Lake to Harhorin. I think it's around 20-30km north of Harhorin and there's a new road that has been built that connects this site to Harhorin. Anyway, the reason why we stopped here was to see an 8th century inscription monument to the Turkish general, Kul Tigin (685-731 A.D.). It was erected by his brother Bilge Kagan after Kul Tigin died here. The inscription monument is 3.35m high by 1.32m wide and features 40 lines of Turkish writings on one side and 13 on the other.
Ogyi Nuur, or Ogii Lake, is a large lake located about 65km north of Harhorin and about 300km east of Ulaanbaatar on the road to the Arhangay provincial capital of Tsetserleg. The lake measures a length of about 8km by a width of 5km and has a surface area of 25.7 sq km. I came here on the 4th day of my 12-day tour around Mongolia and stayed the night in a tourist ger camp beside the lake surrounded by horses. The lake is very beautiful and still, with no boats on it.
