Bayan Burd is located off the main road in the aimag center. It's tucked a little bit away so it's hard to find but man oh man it's much better food than all that other Mongolian stuff you can get in Bayankhongor. The chef (who is really nice and speaks English well) lived in New Zealand for awhile and makes some good burritos, steaks, roasted chicken--everything that is NOT mutton. I found out about the restaurant when I was sitting at the Internet cafe in town and saw a sign for www.bayankhongor.com . www.Bayankhongor.com also has information for some other restaurants that I wasn't able to try like a psuedo Korean restaurant.
On a long trip like the one we were on (maybe 3 weeks in south bayankhongor and umnugovi) it was great to eat a little "normal" food. They even have cheeseburgers on the menu, but they weren't serving any then. Darn!
Favorite Dish: Burritos, they use spices besides salt, there were beans and rice, and it was really filling for just 4,500 TUGRUGS.
