My friend had her bag stolen the minute we stepped out of the train-station. At the Black Market, the pick-pockets, known as ALI-BABAS, are everywhere. They usually carry a sweater or jacket awkwardly across their shoulders to hide the stolen goods. The Black Market is crowded and there tend to be people pushing. The Ali-Babas know about your money-belts and will poke your backs to test for them. Another friend had some pencils in his pocket and even those were pick-pocketed away. During the Naadam Festival, the pick-pockets took advantage of the distracted crowds and made many attempts, especially on tourists. Yet another friend had the pockets of his pants (two of them, one on either side!) slashed and his money fell out. Just be careful! Leave a Comment

The only danger in Mongolia is usually oneself. Watch where you step or wear boots: I saw some poisonous snakes. Some people are afraid of eating marmot (because of the bubonic plague). I did eat it and I'm still alive... Leave a Comment

It seems, that winter starts already in September in Mongolia. It was very cold at the end of September. In the night the water was frozen. But the colours of the trees were spectacular!! On the meadows were many flowers blooming. Leave a Comment

Be very careful of the water. The plane from Hohhot to Beijing leaves before the restaurant opens and they supply a box breakfast of a ham and lettuce sandwich. I took a single bite before I realized that the lettuce may have been rinsed in water. It was. Luckily I had so little that with an Alka Seltzer and two Pepto-Bismal tablets I was fine in a couple of hours after the queasiness started. Leave a Comment

Be careful from closed a deal, like Car Rental or organized tour, with Erdenebat Boris (Eric) – UB Mongolia. According to my experience (and also my friends) he abrogative preliminary agreement regarding tour conditions. For example: Vehicle not same vehicle booking, Driver not English spiking, extra payment contrary to the agreement and so on. Mr. Erdenebat Boris (Eric) is a faker. I am warning you.

Beware of the very brazen pickpockets of the Black Market in Ulaanbataar, these guys work in teams and have very little finesse somtimes, for a laugh stick a low value note in an obvious pocket get your mates to do the same, and place your bets. And the lucky pickpocket gets his lunch.
