Favorite thing: Thousands of trekkers visit Himalaya each year, so potentially the damage is huge. If you are an independent trekker stay in a lodge that uses kerosene, do not take hot showers more than necessary and anyway only when the water is heated with solar energy. Let's try to keep Nepal green!

Favorite thing: When you go to Nepal the best thing you can do is to go into the mountains. Many people in Nepal still live in villages without a road to it and without water-toilets and electricity.
To get an idea how hard their live is and what it means to walk 3 hours or more per day to school or to the next village, hiking is the best experience.

Favorite thing: Before I went to Nepal I had heard about the Rhododendron Bloom from a couple of different guide books. I wasn't there for the peak of the bloom and the area that I hiked in was being deforested at an alarming rate! I met a European Volunteer that had been there for a long time and she told me that she had seen drastic changes in the many years she had been there. I was hoping to see hillsides covered in bloom but actually only saw a few scattered on my trek.

Favorite thing: If you don't come here to meditate, you probably come for trekking!
Popular treks from Kathmandu are the Everest Base Camp, and the Helambu and Langtang treks.
From Pokhara, the most popular are the Annapurna Circuit and the Jomsom trek. Less-travelled alternatives require more planning, but include the Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek, the Dolpo region, Mustang and Rara Lake.

Favorite thing: When you are trekking one thing to be aware of is the Mule Trains! I met them on the path quite often and I usually made sure that I was on the inside of the trail and not to the outside as it would quite often be 1000's of feet down if you were to fall! I didn't have any problems with any of the mules trying to run me over but it could be a problem if your not paying attention. Most of the lead mules have bells around their necks so you can hear the beautiful sounds before they are right on top of you.

Favorite thing: All over Nepal you will see the people utilizing what land that they have. As the country is very mountainous they have carved the mountain sides into farming land. The amount of work they have put into them is absolutely amazing! I have read over the years about the landslides that can occur after very heavy rains. So if your trekking in the area during heavy rains becareful. The terraces themselves are so photogenic. Looking back on it I wish I would have taken alot more pictures. Well I will on my next trip!

Favorite thing: Do the Everest base camp trek and stay at Namchee Bazar on the way down to celebrate.
Fondest memory: We celebrated our trip by drinking the bakery (come bar) dry of anything liquid. It was a fantastic night and there were people from all walks of life. The placed rocked with all the old favourites in the music department and the locals thought we were all CRAZY! We were all very sick the next day!

Favorite thing: The Annapurna Circuit Trek was a fantastic experience. You experience so many climates and meet so many great people. I am planning to go back very soon.
Fondest memory: Hospitality and kindness... And a memorable, crazy bus ride from Beni to Pokhara.

Favorite thing: Trekking in Nepal for a long period is something you will never forget. In most countries I've been in, trekking more than few days, due to logistics, is very difficult. In nepal it's easy and amazingly beautiful. Waking up every morning to the sight of the Himalayas, see the village people, eat Yack cheese etc. What a memory! I went to the around Annapurna trek (about 15-18 days), and planning on going to the everest base camp and Gokio (~ 3 weeks) in three month.
