The House of the Kumari, Kathmandu
The House of the Kumari is one of the most interesting buildings in Kathmandu's Durbar Square. The wood carvings you see here are amazingly beautiful.
It is also home to the living goddess, a young girl. I only saw her on postcards.
Do go into the courtyard to see the beautiful wood carvings (there is no entrance fee).

The House of the Kumari is one of the most interesting buildings in the city, an ornately carved wooden construction from the 18th century. It is home to a living goddess, a young girl believed to be the incarnation of Dhurga, a bloodthirsty deity often appealed to with animal sacrifice by believers. The Kumari often appears at the balcony inside the courtyard to bestow the goddess's blessing.
Temple of Kumari: The temple or the residence of Living goddess, Kumari, is situated in the vicinity of Hanumandhoka Palace. The building has profusely carved wooden balconies and window screens. The kumari-the living Goddess, acknowledges the greetings from her balcony window. Photography is prohibited.
We had the opportunity to see and meet Kumari Devi after two attempts, on 8th and 15th September. Kumari Devi is the only living Goddess in the world. The selectoin process is also very tough. A pre pubery girl from Newar Community is first selected thru rigorous process as she has to have the quality of a Goddess and she is kept in confinement among fearsome articles for 3days. She should not get scared at any point of time. Then she is selected as Kumari Devi.
We talked with her and her parents for about 15 mts and took her blessings. She is girl of 9 years age. I will put a photo from Post Card pic as photography is prohibited there.
