Have not been to Tibet and so decided to visit the Tibetan Refugee Camp. Many of these refugees crossed the border into Nepal from Tibet when the Dalai Lama fled from the Red Chinese army. The Dalai Lama's official residence is now in India but there is a sizeable group of Tibetans in Nepal as Nepal is saddled between the two giants of China and India.

There were beautiful carpets sold. I bought a nice one and paid in US dollars probably too much. Perhaps a bit guilt being a Chinese.

This camp was set up in 1960 under the initiative of the International Red Cross and the Swiss Development Corporation, then known as Swiss Association for Technical Assistance, in cooperation with His Majesty’s Government of Nepal. Its main objective is to help the Tibetan refugees to do something productive and support themselves.

I bought a nice carpet (200 USD) for a good price, and for a little support...
