I went to Hotel Sneha to get some food late at night and arrived at the tail end of the buffet dinner there. It was extensive and tasty.
Later, I had an a la carte dinner here as well, also good.
Favorite Dish: If you are a daal bhat fan or just entered from India and want to sample good Nepalese food, the buffet dinner here is probably worth it. You can get cheaper and more variations if you scour the smallish restaurants elsewhere in Nepalgunj and sample here and there, but for good, safe food and a very uncomplicated meal, settle for the Sneha's.

NB! I visited this place in June 2009 just to find it closed. It may have been for refurbishment or whatever. Do look out for reopening, because its near-namesake Kitchenette is not even worth that name...
Kitchen Hut is the only really funky and good place to eat in Nepalganj outside the hotels. You will not be alone here, and that's because of its food. The architecture isn't much to write home about but the food is a genuine attraction compared to toher outlets. You have this place or Travellers' Inn for a good meal...
Favorite Dish: The widest choice on the menu is also the best - Indian items. Try to stack up several snack dishes if you are tired of the Indian Thali or Nepalese daal bhat. There is a wide choice of drinks, but fresh juices and the like seem largely absent. An icy cold beer after a day out in the Terai is always welcome! Tack that to a tandoori dish and you'll be fine.

Want to splash out on an American or European style meal in Nepalgunj? Then your choice will be the restaurant in Travellers' Inn. Travellers' Inn even cater food for discerning guests at the top Sneha and Batika Hotels...
They have a real good pepper steak here, the choice fillet meat imported from across the border. The selection of cakes is the best on this side of Kathmandu and god knows how far into India. I can only recommend this restaurant, even if not very imaginatively made in terms of architecture and views, as the best and a one-of-a-kind in the Terai.
Favorite Dish: After a long time on locker and bad-rice daal bhat, the pepper steak cheered me up considerably, but also other food presented around the table was impaccable and well made and big portions, too.
If the weather is condusive, and the mosquitos full, sit for your meal in the garden.

Give one Thakali a bit of space and credit and in no time there will be a restaurant and hotel - a good one!
This is it, the Bhattachan of Nepalganj runs this place in some kind of arangem, ent with Candy who runs the Travellers' Inn.
The best local hotel if you are on business here on a local budget/local needs only.
A good restaurant for dall bhaat and related food. Go through the reception for accessing the restaurant in the back yard.
Hygiene is always an issue in the Terai restaurants, beware of water and dishwashing quality.
Favorite Dish: Good daal bhaat, any kind; quick in producing breads, rotis, chappatis, naans also.
Excellent daal sout made on Humla beans.

Nepalgunj doesn't really have much going for it. Sorry to say. Unless you are an anthropologist, sociologist, political scientist or ditto societal enquirer. Funny kind of place, but not funky......
