“The Curry Kitchen”: Above Hot Breads Bakery

by into-thin-air

When I am in Kathmandu I usually go for my lunch at Hot Breads, I often have one of their delicious sandwiches then take it upstairs to “The Curry Kitchen” and have a Fresh Lemon Soda to wash it down !!“The Curry Kitchen” is a Great Place for People Watching, Run by friendly staff and also with a good clean toilet. What more could you want !!I took Nirmal and his family to The Curry Kitchen for a meal on my 2012 trip, the food was excellent, service above average and prices fair – Give them a go !!

Green Organic Café and Salad bar: Brand New for 2007

by into-thin-air

This place is managed by the same guy who used to run “Tibet’s Cantina” – and since he left that place has since closed !! So that must say something about the mans restaurant skills !!On the same street as The Kathmandu Guest House, Same side of the road in the direction of Durbar Square.Excellent Menu, Friendly Efficient Staff, Outside Terrace for those warmer Evenings. Just Great Food at a fair price – Try It !!I was back here in 2008 and it is still good, not quite as good as it was in 2007, probably because it has changed hands, But still worth a visit -- Try the Felafel !!I ate again at The Green Organic café on my 2012 trip and again the food was excellent - But alas the Felafel was no longer on the menu

Ustav Restaurant: Traditional Nepali Food

by leon.partsi

The restaurant tries to be local, but I think too many tour groups found out about it and now it's pretty much all international tourists at the start or end of their treks. The food is still great, though. Lots of small courses of different things.Upon entry you get a red dot on your forehead, which symbolises welcome in Hindu culture. Or so I am told. I think later my guide said that it also means "single."The seating is that very pleasant interactive experience, with long tables so that you have lots of people you don't know around you. If you're travelling alone, then you get to meet lots of people. And there's a nice traditional dancing display. Fun! The dessert was pretty awesome. Some sort of meringue cream pie with a cherry. Delicious!

Rum Doodle: Holy Doodle

by leon.partsi

The food is western and terrific - normally hard to do due to the quality of the ingredients you get in Kathmandu. However it is done, this English team of cooks have done it. I loved my meal here. There's also a cool touristy thing you can do where you get a paper footprint, write a message on it, and stick it on the wall. There are already hundreds here, showing you some of the history and messages people before you have left behind. Reading some of the messages is quite heartwarming - otherwise are quite amusing. One man congratulated himself on achieving Everest Base Camp, then apologised to his late wife that she couldn't be with him to share one of his life dreams. Another group of English wrote a faux movie poster in the vein of "Into Thin Air" which included a review from their tour guide: "A bunch of unprofessional limeys - never again." I wrote a message to all my friends, and a...

" Big Belly" Restaurant: Tranquil setting in the Heart of Thamel !!

by into-thin-air

" Big Bellies Restaurant " is in a little courtyard off Thamel, Between Nirmal's Office ( Himalayan Magic Adventures ) and Thamel Chouk. This is quite a small restaurant but offers both inside and outside dining, an extensive menu, Very Reasonable prices and Excellent Food. The Kitchen is set at the back of the courtyard so you can see what the chefs are up to !! --and It is Clean !!Give it a try !!2006 -- Although I didn't eat in this restaurant time that I was in Nepal As far as I am aware, the information in this tip is still as good now as when I wrote it in 2004I was back here sever times in 2008 and am happy to say that the food is a good as ever, It is getting a bit popular now and my only gripe was that the manger tends to move people around to maximise his seating capacity – oh well, That’s business !!I again enjoyed several meals here on my 2010 trip and am pleased to report...

Samrat Restaurant: Smokers not allowed!!!

by mamtap

Samrat is very famous among local people for it's delicious food and clean atmosphere. In Nepal, most of the restaurant allowed Smoking but Samrat is different. The price is also reasonable. It is located in a busy place in Pokhara but when inside you'll get a peaceful environment. There are cabins for secretive peoples and an extra sitting place inside for people who want their own quiet area. My Favorite food is obviously is the Local Nepalese Food and the smoke free atmosphere.

Relimai Restaurant and Sekuwa Center: Hail Local Food!

by mamtap

This restaurant is situated at a very peaceful place. Got a big place to sit and eat plus the washroom is also clean. And the food they serve has variation. Price is reasonable and the staffs are very friendly. My FAV dish is Buff Sukuti and the drink is Local Wine (Rakshi). Nice place to relax and hang out with friends . View of the Fewa Lake from this restaurant is absolutely breath taking.

Yak Lodge - Restaurant: Tibetan family run Restaurant

by poledi

I visited this family run Tibetan restaurant for breakfasts. Breakfast are pretty big, tasty and inexpensive. Co-owner is a little shy but represents high standard level of customer service. Standard Nepali breakfast - eggs, toasts, jam or honey, roasted vegetables and tea or coffee.
