Built in 1807by the first governor of Palpa, the temple is a classic Newari, three tiered pagoda-style, with brass plate, gold roof and erotic wooden carving. The Vishnu dedicated temple is surrounded by a one metre stone wall, known locally as the Great Wall of Palpa. Devotees chant holy Bhajan recitals in chorus every morning and evening.
At the start of the steps to the Amar Narayan Mandir is another temple, much smaller, dedicated to Shiva.

The Palpa governor decided to rebuild this temple to its actual modern looking to commemorate his victory over British India troops in 1815 AD. It is the only shrine dedicated to the patron saint of the Newars (Druga).

Probably the most striking building in Tansen, the governor’s palace was built early 20th century in an imposing style with the bureaucratic look of an administrative building. A fan of pomp and circumstance, the governor used to ride out to greet his subjects on an elephant, passing through the Mul Dhoka nearby.
Until the Maoists attack july 2006, the Tansen Durbar was a heavily fortified administrative and military centre for the local government.
In December 2006, all it remained of the governor’s palace are the ruins of the outside walls, and the once. There’s no reason to open the gate of Baggi Dhoka any longer…as only street dogs venture around

Also known as Baggi Dhoka, a huge finely decorated doorway leading to the palace grounds in the Tansen durbar.
Built in the late 19th century, its size allowed for the governor's entrance on an elephant and today it is a main feature of yearly chariot processions and festivals.
