Patan: PATAN - WORLD HERITAGE SITE
  • Tip Rating:
  • Patan is the second largest city in Nepal, after Kathmandu.
It is separated from Kathmandu by Bagmati river.
In ancient times, it was named Lalitpur, the city of the beauty.
Its map is a mandala: in the centre there is the Royal Palace, from which four road branch out in all the cardinal points.

Baktapur is the most beautiful I view all over the Nepal.
Baktapur, like Bagdaon, means "the city of devotees". It was built in IX century by king Ananda Malla. After, it became one of the three capitals of Kathmandu valley, togheter with Kathmandu and Patan.
Baktapur Durbar Square is one of the seven world heritage sites all over the Kathmandu valley.

    festivals: SHIVARATRI FESTIVAL
  • Tip Rating:
  • Shivaratri, the night of Lord Shiva, is held between February/March and is one of the major festivals of Nepal. During this festival more than 100,000 of Hindu devotees from India and Southeast Asia arrive to Pashupatinath temple to pay their homage to Shiva on his birthday.
On this holy day, worshippers take dip and bath in the holy river at early dawn and fast for the whole day and stay around fire to keep them warm as it is still winter in Nepal.
The entrance to the temple is allowed only to Hindus.
