Bunga-Dya Jatra festival, Nepal
1 more image

Join in the Bunga-Dya Jatra festival (Red Machhendranath). If you are in Kathmandu or Patan during 28 April, then you can join in the Bunga-Dya Jatra festival like what I did. This interesting festival is to celebrate the Buddhist deity of rain, and is honoured with a chariot procession through Patan which has a tradition of about 1,200 years !

Our guide during Holi!

Nepal has so many different festivals celebrating everything and anything, the chances are you will be in Nepal during some sought of festival. I was luck or unlucky enough to be there during Holi, when everyone throws coloured powder and water at each other. I really was in a complete state and it took me ages to get the dye out of my hair! but it was sooo much fun.

pashupatinah

Shivaratri, the night of Lord Shiva, is held between February/March and is one of the major festivals of Nepal. During this festival more than 100,000 of Hindu devotees from India and Southeast Asia arrive to Pashupatinath temple to pay their homage to Shiva on his birthday.
On this holy day, worshippers take dip and bath in the holy river at early dawn and fast for the whole day and stay around fire to keep them warm as it is still winter in Nepal.
The entrance to the temple is allowed only to Hindus.

diwali

this is a very popular festival in Nepal betwen Hindu people.People pay homage to LAXMI,the godness of wealth. Sisters bless their brothers making them the "tika" on their head and giving some presents. We were lucky because we were invited to a family celebration and also we were blessed like you can see in the picture

Colourful Buddhist prayer flags, Nepal

Do observe the colourful prayer flags in Nepal. In fact, many of the things in Nepal are very colourfully painted, including their buses and lorries !
