Looking across the fields & cemetary to the mosque

Check out the Mosque in Hushe village, it is a small but colourful mosque set in amongst the wheat fields with a small cemetary next to it. The mosques of Baltistan tended to follow this colourful style.

The track behind the Mosque leads down to the river where you may find some solitude away from the inquisitiveness of the village itself. And of course there is the ever-present backdrop of the mountains always there with their changing moods and colours.

The colourful dog-roses.

The delicate summer flowers growing on the slopes leading gown to Hushe were a welcome burst of colour after so many days spent amongst they greys of ice and glacial rock.

These ones were called 'dog-roses' and really lightened the landscape and spirits of the trekkers!

Blissfully lost in the back lanes of Hushe!

We spent some time just wandering the laneways of the village and getting a feel for its people and the amazing buildings. Armed with a cheery 'assalam aleikum' the locals were very firendly - with a band of little-people usually inquisitively following a few pacees behind to see what we were up to!

A beautiful scene - the track to Hushe

The same place as the dog-roses, the trekking route which connects Gondogoro Camp and the Gondogoro La with Hushe village.

The scene probably look s unremarkable now, but to hear little birds twittering in the trees stand by a gentle stream surrounded by flowers and stunted trees (like in the Japanese Paintings) with rocky peaks around lightly dusted by snow was just a sensory overload and a very potent mental image I still hold even now 18 months after the trip!

Relaxation time in the campground after trekking!

More a must-do than a 'must see'. After a couple of weeks of trekking it was so nice just to sit in the sun, take your shoes off and read a book! With views of Masherbrum and stunning green fields, what better place to relax!
