by maztek Written Oct 16, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Yummys 36 is a ice cream parlor located in JINNAH SUPPER famous market of Islamabad. First time I visited this place in 1991 when had lot of appetite for the ice cream. It was immediately after it was inaugurated and every one had liked the special scoops. And today when I try to avoid the ice creams, my grand children forced me to visit Yummys 36 and give them a company. I shared the scoop with others and was delighted to taste the different types. It was wonderful.

    Papa Sallis: Great steaks!

by pakistanibrain Updated Jul 16, 2006

I went to Papa Sallis in Islamabad in 1999. After that I haven't had the chance to enjoy the delicious steaks there again, which is a pity. But I'll definitely try to go there again on my next visit to Islamabad.

The food there was very good and fresh. The prices were quite high for Pakistani standards, but from a Western perspective still very cheap.

    Favorite Dish: STEAK

  • KITCHEN CUISINE

    by 5555555 Written Sep 5, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Kitchen cuisine is one of the success stories in Islamabad, having opened a patisserie

and small cafe, as well as two outlets in lahore!! There cake quality has also improved

considerabaly. Now you'll get a much wider range of cheesecakes, rather than the plain

cheesecakes that were popular in the mid 80s.

They also sell chocolate fudge cake with layers of rich chocolate cake and a thick

creamy icing inside and all around!! The icing chocolate cup- cakes are also wonderful,

with a rich chocolate sponge texture, and a homemade "betty crocker" style icing. And

chocoholics must also try the delicious mousse desserts available both as a cake and in

individual helpings. Les successful are the bizarre attempts at the chocolate brownies,

rather tasteless bloated bits of fake- chocolate sponge cake.

The savoury items at kitchen cuisine are also good - small quiches, sausage rolls,

chicken patties, little pizzas and cheese straws. The triangular spinach and cheese

    pastries are personal favourites!!

  • THE CHINA TOWN RESTAURANT!!!!!!

    by 5555555 Written Sep 5, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The food in this restaurant is delicious. The meal begins with a fiery peanut starter, i just loved this starter!! The peanuts are marinated in a combination of flaked red chillies and chilli oil, which is extremely delicious!!! For those who are not chilli addicts, thin slices of pickled cucumbers and carrots are also served. The thai soup is an excellent way to start the meal. I just loved the gorgeous fried rice that goes at the bottom!!

Another special meal is the exclusive china town special- the mongolian fire pot {meat or seafood}. You will get a big bowl of steaming hot seasoned soup into which are put slivers of raw meat, chicken or seafood {prawns, squid, fish} and vegetables along with other seasonings. This is an excellent meal and cooked without any fat!!
    This restaurant is a MUST!!!!!

  • OMAR KHAYYAM RESTAURANT!!!!

    by 5555555 Written Aug 29, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

One of the oldest restauantsin islamabad is the OMAR KHAYYAM restaurant.
This is even more commendable if you consider the light and subtle flavours
of iranian cuisine and the fact that most pakistanis find the food much to bland
to consider eating!! Nevertheless, this is where omar khayyam has scored.
You can enjoy the lightness of the flavours that are a hallmark of the iranian cuisine-
lots of yogurts, garlic, lemon, spinach, olives, promegranate seeds, plain rice and lots
of saffron. Your taste buds will be thankeful for the lack of spice overload. It's a most
    refreshing change!!!

I just loved the kebabs, served in a bed of rice with a knob of butter. Another one
of my favourite is the chelo kebab kobedah- a flat grilled mutton kebab.
I also loved the barley soup and the wonderful aubergine starter!!!
You should also try the salad olive made of potatoes, peas, eggs and ckicken
in mayonase. It's served with bread. If you prefer something simpler, then the biryani- a
spinach and yogurt dish is ideal.

When i came back here in the uk , i found out that i had gone a bit fat- but in islamabad
you can't help it with all these dishes- but soon i got myself in my usual shape again!!!

  • MEZZO RESTAURANT!!!!!!

    by 5555555 Written Aug 29, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This amazing restauarant has interesting if uneven thai and pakistani cooking. The starters
and soups at mezzo are probably the highlight of the meal. The cooking is authentic- in other
words there is an absense of the usual 'garam masala' and red chilli powder. I just loved
the potato and leek soup, you should try this- it's delicious!!! I also loved the chilled gazpacho!!! It's a must!!!
The continental dishes are generally well prepared and presented- the fish dishes are particulary good.
My other favourites are the grilled sole in butter sauce and the thai grilled sole in corriander sauce!! no 1 dishes!!!

If you prefer slightly simpler fare try the fried fish with tarter sauce. One reason that i am reccommanding the fish is that
meat in pakistan doesn't come up to the standard required to make a good steak!
In addition, few other restaurants cook continental style fish well in the capital. So while the meat and chicken dishes
are good enough at mezzo, you will be better of sticking with fish!!!

Mezzo has a pleasant interior done in egyption motif. While there is absoulutely no connection between the decor and the
cuisine- it does make a pleasant environment!!!
The sevice at mezzo 's is also usually polite, with the staff always willing to make an extra effort to personalise the
dishes for regulars. AN AMAZING RESTAURANT!!!!!!

  • Mama's ice cream

by najamrulz Updated Sep 29, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you live in Islamabad and have never tried Mama's ice cream then you are really missing some thing. This delicious french flavor ice cream comes in 50 different flavors which are not common in Pakistan. Double scoop of Mama's icecream would cost you Rs. 40 ( less then US $ 1)

The lady living in F-7 shifted to Islamabad from France and started home made ice cream business in small scale by opening franchise outlets at D-Watson Islamabad and Rawalpindi. But now due to great demand the network has been expanded to Murree and Nathia Gali as well.

Favorite Dish: My favorite flavors are Maple Wallnet, Apple Pie, Mint , Vanilla Fudge and French Vanilla. But i can assume you that none of their flavor is bad. Just try and you would get addicted.

The freshness, the service and the selection of this fine Pakistani cuisine restaurant make it top of my list. Plus, it was recommended to me by a Pakistani colleague.

Wide selection of dishes are available at the lunchtime buffet and lunch boxes are also available for takeout.

    Definitely must try it.

Favorite Dish: I ate during lunch time and enjoyed the buffet, which included chicken handi, dall mash, nan, different kababs, several salads, deserts and rice. It was wonderful and I was stuffed to happiness by the end.

Royal Elephant at the Marriott Hotel: Best Thai Food in Islamabad

    by mi5chelle Written Jun 16, 2004

The Royal Elephant is an elegant establishment with highly trained servers and an outstanding menu. From the watermelon juice to the curries, its all fantastic.

Favorite Dish: I ate out with five Italian friends and we sampled a variety of dishes from different curries, to spiced rice, fish and seafood and chicken. I was impressed with everything.

I had the traditional thai soup with lemon grass and green curry shimp - delicious.

Number 51 on the menu, however, is not recommended.

Also, they don't serve alcohol and you cannot bring your own.

  • Chevy's Ristorante

by najamrulz Updated Jun 3, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Chevy's is an international Italian chain operating in Italy , Germany and now in Pakistan. They are in Islamabad too offering mouth watering Italian, Mexican, Continental and Pakistani dishes.

Their food is excellent and interior is very impressive. In day time from 12 noon till 6 p.m. they have buffet lunch daily for Rs. 263 ( US $ 5 appox) inclusive of taxes per person. You can also choose any thing from their huge menu. They have starters, soups, salads, steaks, chicken specialities, sea food, exclusive Chevy dishes, burgers, sadwiches, sea food, mexican food, pizzas, pastas, dessertsm coffee, ice cream, cocktails and much more.

Chevy's Ristorante is located in Blue area just next to Emirates airline office. Most of their clients are executives working in nearby offices. So they are usually busy during lunch timings serving their regular guests. Free home delivery is also available.

Let me add here that Chevy's is an expensive restaurant and a decent meal for a couple would cost more than Rs. 1,000 ( US $ 18 appox).

Favorite Dish: I love their BBQ- Chicken burger with hot BBQ- Sauce, Chicken Corn Soup and Vanilla Shake. But i can assure you that all of their food is excellent.
