Insight of the culture and hospitality

by Kalashtravels Written Apr 25, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Mostly the visitors come stay in expensive hotels, enjoy the cool weather and go back. All this happens because the tour opperators look for their ease and intersts. And a lot of the guides have a feeling of hatred for the kalash because the kalash are considered as no-believers. For the reason the hosts do not consider it important to let their guests go close to the culture and people.

There is quite enough to feel, see and experience among the Kalash which a lot of the tourists miss.

A place of Buriel Ceremony of Kailashis

by Pakistaniguy Written Nov 3, 2003

Here in this big room the coffin is laid and kept for 3 days and for those three days eveyone comes here and 'celebratĂȘ' by dancing and singing the death of the kailashi person. Locals says that this place smells like hell when someone dies due to this ritual of kailashis.

    A 'Special' house for girls

by Pakistaniguy Written Nov 3, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

According to Kailashi people whoever touches the girls who are in their 'Special days' becomes Dirty and Unclean and that person is exiled from the village ! until he goes through a process of becoming 'clean'.

The girls having those special days are kept here like animals and nobody can touch them either directly or indirectly ! The food is put near their door and they pick it up because it is not allowed to hand over the plate or anything to them ! Very Strange Culture !

There is a six day trek connecting Chitral to Swat. The trek starts at Mastuj in nothern Chitral and ends at Lake Mahodand in upper Swat. Any one who is fit and following a regular exercise routine can do this trek. I have taken my wife, and later my daughter, on this trek. It goes over a glaciated 16000 ft pass called the Kachi Khani Pass. Best time to do this trek is July or August. I will be glad to provide details
