As far as my research and study about the sports of the kings’re concerned, Polo and Chess’re the sports which’re played by the kings in past.
Chronicle tells us that Polo’s played in some parts of Persia and still there’re some similar sports’re (Buzkushi), practiced by the inhabitants of Badhkhshan and some parts of Tajikistan & Uzbukistan.
But it’s fact that these sports gave genesis to Polo and it’s originated in Iran whereas in the olden days it was known as Chogan, nowadays it’s a famous sport in Chitral and Northern Pakistan, where the tournament matches’re held as well as practice.
Moreover, locals take part in the matches with great verve and enthusiasm especially when Shandoor Polo Tournament’s played on the highest polo terrain (3800m) of the world and tourists from all over the world rush to Shandoor to have a glimpse of this regal sport.
This year it’ll be held from 7th to 9th of July 2004, so see you at Shandoor.

The game of Polo was born in Chitral. The people here have a passion for the game which borders madness. Every village boasts of having a polo ground and any one who is anybody plays polo.
People wanting to learn how to play polo ( the style is somewhat different to the international style) should come to Chitral. People still remember a British lawyer who came here from UK just to learn how to play polo. It costs as less as USD 45 per day for a horse and an instructor.

Equipment: Full riding kit. You can buy the mallets and balls here.
