Its pretty of the beaten path for me, but Imranthetrekker, a VT member, wander through the Valleys with a blindfold on...and backwards too!

Na just kidding, but he's an expert trekker and loves it too, always stopping to check out the scenery, whilst I struggled up the mountains. (thats cause I still smoke!)

The Birir Valley was my favourite, no hotels or supermarkets. Tradition life.

Definetly worth a lok, and a stay for 2 weeks or so.

Bamboret village, Kalash valley

Kailash valley the home of the Kafir-Kailash or 'Wearers of Black Robes', a primitive pagan tribe. Their ancestry is enveloped in mystry and is the subject of controversy. A legend says that five soldiers of the legions of Alexander of Macedon settled in Chitral and are the progenitors of the Kafir Kailash. The 3,000 strong Kafir-Kailash live in the valleys of Birir, Bumburet and Rambur in the south. Bumburet, the largest and the most picturesque valley of the Kafir-Kailash, is 40 km from Chitral and is connected by a jeepable road. Birr, 34 km away is accessible by a jeepable road. Rambur is 32 km from Chitral, the road is jeepable up to Ayun and the remaining 17 km have to be travelled on foot.

The Kilash women wear black gowns of coarse cloth in summer and hand-spun, wool dyed in black in winter. Their picturesque headgear is made of woollen black material decked set with cowrie shells, buttons and crowned with a large coloured feather. In parts of Greece even today some women sport a similar head covering. The Kailash are a gay people who love music and dancing particulary on occasions of their religious festivals like Joshi Chilimjusht, Phool, and Chowas.
