LADIES! BRING AN EMPTY SUITCASE-

by Rumi-fan

Girls, don't bring too much "stuff" with you to Pak. Women's clothing is so cheap and you will want to be sensitive to the way women dress in Pak, so buy your Shalwar Kameez when you arrive. They are so comfortable and cheap. The colours will blow your mind too. Shoes galore! So much available from markets. I would take some Imodium next time i go. Paracetamol is available.

its all available

by TONY786

many who visit bring stuff as gifts from the west, its all available in Pakistan its just that locals wont spend 50rs on colgate toothpaste for example when they can get local stuff for 5rs , so when you see vistors of pakistani origin lugging suitcases with giant handluggage they are normally village people who have poor relatives and they want to show them how rich they are in the west by bringing lots of gifts which is usually not the case. avoid all electronic stuff and never try and bring alcohol as they scan/ xray every bag and thats what they are looking for on entry. clothing is all cheap and available what i would say is bring cheap but robust kids toys for the little ones and see there eyes light up ...priceless

Pakistan, a land of contrasts!

by lachydragon

Pakistan is a land of incredible contrast. My trip took in Islamabad, Skardu and the Glaciers of Baltistan, going from 38 degrees (celcius) dry heat of Islamabad to the 'miuns something horrific....blowing snow of the Baltoro Glacier'!Most people have an image of a hot dry country, but really consider you packing if you are doing the all-round trip. I brought a polaroid filter for my camera to take pictures on the glacier where thre was little contrast with so much glare.I found it helped bring out the features of the landscapes better (compared to the phots I took without it) but just beware - I 'over-did-it' a bit with some of the photos and got almost black sky! (The joys of altitude photography!)

Packing List

Lightweight, cotton clothes suffice except in north in winter. Men wear suits for business meetings, social events. Casual shalwar suits are worn by all women and most men in public. Women should dress modestly. Jeans and Pants are very common in ordinary public.

Loose fit will help....

by WAHEEDASLAM

Donot forgert to take a small-zipper shoulder bag to keep out the dust & i8s useful to carry your cameras & other possessions & enough money for one day.... A paking list for clothing includes: loose cotton trousers or mid lenght full skirt & shirts, loose underware that willo wicks-away moisture, sneakers, sandals, flip-flops(to wear in the shower) & some sort of headgear to protect agaist the sun & dust( Some Pakisatani women & men keep their heads covered at all times in summer)sunglasses, sunscreen & lip-salve.Men should take loose fit shorts & cotton shirts as well... Women should take a complete supply of sanitary tampons & their favourite moisturisig cream, as these are only available in big cities like Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad etc. However good chemists in these cities sell imported insect repellent, shampoo, good toilet soap, shaving cream, razor blades, toothbrushes &...

Some essentials

by babar_1

Almost every thing is available in cities like Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi and Peshawar. Light and comfortable cloth (try to wear shalwar kameez - the local dress). Warm cloths are needed for mountain areas. Avoid wearing shorts in public places. Strong shoes for trekking in the mountains. Do'nt forget to bring essential medical drugs as you will hardly find any good medical store in tourist resorts or mountain areas. All brands of camera films are available everywhere and at much cheaper rates as compared to Europe. There are very few camping sites and it is not safe to stay outside during nights. However you can bring sleeping bags.

Backpacks and trolley bags. In summer (April-September): light cotton everywhere, except in the western and northern mountaneous regions for which light jackets and sweaters may be added. In winters (October-March), light jackets and sweaters would be needed even in the plains. Raincoats are necessary during the monsoons (mid-June to end-August). Washrooms tissue rolls, wet hand and face paper wipes. A medical aid box comes in handy e.g. in overcoming altitude sickness or injuries in remote hilly areas like the one in the picture. Fill the box with all sorts of painkillers, medicine for nausea, upset stomachs, etc., gauzes, adhesive bandages and insect repellents. Any equipment may be taken. At some hotels and resorts the equipment has to be handed over to the management for re-charging, as not all the rooms have electric outlets. Sun screens. An electric torch and a roving...
