Food Street - another rip off!

If you are in Lahore as a guest or a tourist, you will definitely hear or read some where about "Food Street" in Gawalmandi Lahore. You will still see crowds inside Food Street at night. Don't be fooled; now only two types of people come here (a) tourists from smaller cities around Lahore who are not familiar with nice dining areas in Lahore or (b) your guest visiting Lahore, he will definitely insist on visiting food street because the place is over projected in the media as a prime tourist spot. There is yet another population that loves to visit this place, they are the guys who live inside nearby streets and who come here just for "pooondi" as their favorite past time.

I am not saying concept of Food Street was a wrong idea, but the food quality is down to earth.

Do visit this place and have a leisurely walk, you will definitely enjoy, but have your dinner in Lakshami Chowk that is just 10-15 minutes walk from here.

Update October 2010 - Food street is closed, how ever some authentic dining places are still there. Why should they close.... they were there before food street existed.

    Food Street at night

A whole street full of life (and food).

Do check it out either for dinner or for a very early breakfast. (I even had Sehri there once)

Favorite Dish: Nehari and Lassi (You won't want to eat Nehari anywhere else after having it here)

    Lahore, Food Street

The so called "Food Street" in Lahore is a pedestrianized zone with nicely restored colonial buildings.
There are plenty of food stalls offering cheap and delicious local food. Most of them have tables on the street, so this a great place to spend an evening eating and people-watching.

    Scene inside Food Street

If you are in Lahore and never been to Food Street then you are really missing some thing. You have to try the delicious desi food at Food Streets in Gawalmandi or Anarkali.

Local and foreign tourists alike visit Food street and enjoy mouth watering Pakistani specialities.

My last trip to food street was in November 2004 when I went there with a bunch for friends. It was fun being there like always. You see many delicious kinds of food, bar-b-que and people eating and enjoying the atmosphere.

Favorite Dish: Prices are reasonable and food is delicious. You must try any bar-b-que item. If you wanna take photographs inside then you have to be very careful and quick like me as photography inside food street is not appreciated.

    new food street

The old area called Gawal mandi has been totally converted in to the Lahore famous night spot " New food street". There are lots of small hotels & resturants serving nearely every dish in the list. Traditionaly decorated buildings reflect the art of the Asian culture. The place is always crowded with families & young generation...There is a massive tv screen as well...a geart place where you mostly see all the Actors & celebraties from different fields.....

    Food
The food of Lahore is best known in Pakistan. There are a lot of expensive and inexpensive place to eat the typical Lahori, Chinese and fast food. Especially visit The Food Street in Gawalmandi area of Lahore. Here you will find the traditional food from all over the Pakistan. The street itself is worth seeing. Old Lahore’s architecture is restored around that street.
