Do not go on your own if you are not familiar of tha prices and if your not fluent in urdu ...because as soon as they clock that your an outsider then that's it! Well to what ive seen they clock that your an outsider ANYWAY without having to open your mouth and utter a single word they still realise your not from pakistan!? By your walk your dress sense etc
So if you do want to enjoy your day shopping and you want to avoid being taken for a fool take someone with you! who knows what there doing and is from around the way..just tell them what you want and they'll ask for it for you...to help you out a little!

When shopping in markets and bazaars, be sure to haggle. It is a part of Pakistani shopping culture, the shopkeepers expect it and enjoy it, and you'd be surprised how much you can save. If you dont't you will end up overpaying. Leave a Comment

Once i returned from islambad at night and when i call taxi the driver demand 200PKR for a short distance from air port. I took my bag and came out from air port area to main road and call a taxi and he demand only 80 rupees lol.
Hope you understand my point and i think it is better to walk a little than gave double money to taxi driver.

There are a lot of private money changers all over the city. I've visited many of them and asked about their exchange rates and have compared them. And I found that the only reliable money changer in Karachi seems to be Khanani & Kalia. They are not only the largest Exchange company in Pakistan (so they have some rep to loose), but also give you the best rates.
I can only speak for US Dollars and Euros here, I don't know about other currencies, but I assume that it will be similar. The Khanani & Kalia I went to is the one in Clifton.

There are beggars everywhere and it really pulls at your heart strings, especially when they're children. But you can't give money to all of them. It seemed like the general population ignored them a lot, which bothered me a little. Sometimes they will crowd you and touch you and follow you, and if you ask them to stop or leave you alone, they won't... Even if you do give them money a lot of times they want more.

They will tell you a fare first, you agree. and then within minutes, when u're on the camel, and the camel has walked a lil, they'll ask you if you wanna go further, to which obviously you'll say yes cos you've hardly gone 5 minutes. They'll then tell you the fare will be doubled... this is unfair behaviour.
When you fix the fare, tell the camel guy you dont want him to just walk for a fewe minutes and then ask if we want to go further. You are fixing the fare for a decent camel ride and he should not cheat or take advantage.
Also, pioint out a small landmark on the beach (there are many vendors) to determine where exactly the camel ride is until and back. Make sure you pay no more than Rs40 per person for a ride. Locals are charged Rs30. And foreigners may be charged Rs50 which is perhaps the max u shd pay. What happens is that they liberally cheat the system leaving an unhappy customer.
Insist that flag markers are put on the beach so you know the distance, rather than being 'taken for a ride' literally! Leave a Comment
