Repairs being carried out

Favorite thing: In Pakistan, unfortunately very little care is done in preserving the national monuments. Several of these monuments are in depleted conditions, with miniscule of amount being spent on repair and maintenance. This apathy is mainly due to little education being imparted in schools about our heritage. Our history starts from independence in 1947. Very little is taught about our colorful history which almost run parallel to the other great civilization that everyone knows about – the Egyptian or the Mayans/Incas.

However I feel there is still hope and I have always been impressed with the well-maintained condition of Shah Jahan Masjid. In all my previous 4-5 visits to this magnificent piece of moghul architecture, I have always seen a craftsman working on it to restore it to its original grandeur. Shah Jahan Masjid is a beautifully maintained piece of architecture in Pakistan and worth a visit if you are in Karachi for a couple of days.

Fondest memory: Trip towards Thatta takes one away from a busy metropolis to a serene surrounding of small villages, lakes, and history. And all this could be done on a single day.

Favorite thing: Your car must have good AC since it’s really hot out there.

Wear summer dresses, no heavy dressings since the temperature may be as hot as 45C in summer.

While planning your excursion to Thatta, watch local travel forecast and travel only if weather is expected to be cloudy or pleasant.

Avoid traveling in the late night.
