Not Too Tasty

Before we head to the day trip to Deosai Mountains, our driver, Basharat, insisted us to buy some food from Indus Pizza and Fast Food, located in Skardu, which we fortunately did not listen to and avoided the trap only to fall into it later.

After returning from Deosai we decided to give the eatery a chance only to disappoint ourselves. Quality of food was not that much of an issue, it was the insipid taste and the lead time that upset us. So, if you are a local, especially from Karachi, then keep away from this place and if you are a foreigner then please don't consider the food as a Pakistani speciality should you choose to taste it in the first place.

Unique Suggestions: The only good thing about the place is the seating place at the back of the eatery with some good views. You can always have some soft drinks and french fries should you need a place to relax after a tough day.

Fun Alternatives: If you are going for a day trip, then arrange for water, preferably botlled one, drinks, and snacks before embarking on the trip from a reasonable store. Don't listen to your driver, who will insist you to buy fast food from his recommended place. Instead, have a good breakfast and merge the lunch with the early dinner at a tested place/

Shiger Valley

Shiger, a beautiful valley of the Baltistan. Situated in the heart of the Karakoram, 32 kms

(20 miles) from Skardu and 1/2 Hour by jeep. It forms the gateway to the great mountain

peaks of the Karakoram, including Mount K-2.

The valley filled with perpetual snows for millions of years. Due to its high ranges

mountains, snow clad peaks, glaciers and beautiful lush green valley it becomes heaven

for tourists.

Here one will encounter the most exciting contrast of landscapes i.e. forests,

rivers, lakes, glaciers, desert and highest mountains of the world

At an average height the undulating, green, flower-filled meadows are surrounded by snow

capped peaks and the drive through these plains is a soul stirring experience.

The epics, balti folk songs, balti dances, balti music, historical palaces, beautiful

mosques reminds the glorious past of this valley.

People over here mostly dependent on agriculture. Apart from the wheat and corn fields

alongside the river banks u can also see the desert region in the beginning of the valley.

The valley abounds in fruit such as grapes, peaches, pears, walnuts and

apricots.

Don't get caught out with the tipping on Treks

Our Legendary Camp-crew (& Ray centre)

What I didn't realise was that it is customary to tip Porters, Guides and Cooks who have accompanied you on trekking trips (on top of the payment for the trip itself) I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THIS......CONSIDERING THE WORK YOUR TREKKING STAFF DO! However, I was caught out by embarrassingly not having enogugh money to pay all our guides, porters and cooks since I kept only a small amount of Rupees for the trek (thinking I wouldn't need them) and then having to rely on my fellow trekkers to help pay the tips.

Unique Suggestions: So make sure you have a chat to your trek leader in Skardu about appropriate sums to pay Porters, Guides and Cooks (they might be a bit coy about the money but you'll get some idea)
