Hunza Valley

by yuet29

Karimabad is where people refer to as Hunza, however the exact Hunza valley stretches long up to the north. The best thing to do in Hunza is relax. The view is magnificient and I found no where else in the world. However most Pakistani themselves missed it.A few activities can be done at Hunza:1. to walk on the street..2. a day trip to Ulta Meadow.3. Baltit Fort 4. walk across the valley to Nagyr side villagesA day trip to Ulta Meadow:- If you decided to do this, go with someone else. The trail is not hard or dangerous but it is fatal if you get it wrong. The usual time needed is around 5 hours, 3 hours up to the meadow and 2 hours down. I did it in 8 hours, 4 hours up and 4 hours down. Missed the way once on the way up and missed the way twice on the way down. And by the time you knew you have lost your path, usually you are hanging half way in the middle of the cliff!!Walk across the...

Karachi: Cliffton Beach

by yuet29

Cliffton Beach is the worst beach that I have ever visited. I went to PTDC in Karachi and said I would like to have a taste of the Arabian Sea. The PTDC advised me: Cliffton beach.Went to Cliffton beach and got total shocked. I never see a beach with rubbish stretches from the land to the sea, for hundreds of meter.. and benches occupied by crows.. with the evening seabreeze, the feeling was a bit disgusting.. imagine all the rubbish and smell stirred in the air..Metup with 2 local later and when I said I have gone to the Cliffton Beach, their respond was: 'Oh gosh, you have seen the worst beach in Pakistan. We do have good beaches..' so I wonder why the PTDC and Thorn Tree people recommending Cliffton Beach, I wonder if they themselves ever visited the beach before..If you like to get shocked, it is for you. Or check out how dirty a beach can be!

Lahore, the culture capital of Pakistan

by imranthetrekker

Bonjour Kate,Lahore, as I usually say, the culture capital of Pakistan.June, July, very hot months of the year, it goes beyond 45 celcius and the nights are pretty sultry.Lahore Fort, Badshahi mosque, Shalimar gardens are worthseeing besides to taste the Pakistani cuisine at Food street of Gawalmandi, near Nisbat road. You could visit the orpahnages and other homes for the homeless people, run by Edhi foundation Pakistan and there is nothing to offend someone, because the foundation will cooperate with you if you could explain the reasons why you are there.I wish you all the luck,Imran SchahFrom the plains to the mountains Pakistan, photoshttp://www.flickr.com/photos/imranthetrekker

Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi

by Faiza-Ifrah

The best time to visit Mazar-e-Quaid, the final resting place of the Founder of the Nation, is before dusk. This allows visitors to enjoy gardens and flowers, reflecting pools, the sunset, and finally the Mausoleum lit by lights from 4 different directions. Another impressive ceremony not to be missed is changing of the guards. At a lower level at the side of the Mazar, there are 4 other graves, including those of the 1st murdered prime minister of the country - Liaqat Ali Khan and Quaid's sister - Fatima Jinnah.Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of the Mazar-e-Quaid. Therefore, I am borrowing one from member Asalaam Aleikum at travelpod.Pakistan is a democratic and an Islamic Republic. It was a part of British India until 1947, when the Pakistan Movement for a state for Muslims of the northwestern provinces of British India, led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, more commomly known as...

Visa reuirements

by Aghani

While we welcome you to Pakistan I would advise you to ask nearest Pakistan embassy about Visa requirement. Its better to get a visa before arrival to exclude any unpleasant surprises. The visa rules of all countries are different. Some countries allow visitors without any visa, some grant them on arrival under certain conditions while others allow entry only with a valid visa. Some countries do not allow visitors from certain countries. As a precaution a visitor must know the rules before journey.

Moenjodaro & Taxila

by imranthetrekker

Bonjour Alyson,I don't know about Karachi, but I did it from Sukkur, a day trip, better to do it during the daylight, there've been cases of dacoity and kidnapping on that route.Normally to any historicl site or museum, as besal mentioned, 200 Pkrs, is charged, a PTDC Motel's there at Moenjodaro so you can stay there too.Taxila's at 45 minutes drive from Islamabad, Museum and sites're worthseeing, likewise Juliuan monestary, Sirkap site (the ancient city), but if you buy the ticket for one ite you can visit 2,3 sites with the same ticket.Sites're opne normally but I can check the off days for the museums.October's one of the best months to visit south Pakistan, on the 3rd or 4th we'd be celebrating Eid in the Muslim world.I'm here in Chitral after making a trip to Kalash valleys with some media people, weather's very nice here. All the best,Imran SchahPhotos of the Mountains,...
