Minibus No.12 leaves from outside Lahore Railway Station from Wagha every 15 minutes, cost approx US$ 0.20 per person. Taxi shall charge around US$ 8 for this half an hour journey. Only Foreign Nationals can cross the border as it is closed for Indians & Pakistanis. The Lahore-Delhi (Samijhota Express) train leaves Lahore at 11:00 hrs on Mondays and Thursdays. • Tip Rating:
  • No passenger boats or ships for the general public sail to or from Pakistan at present. A few pilgrim ships/boats do ply between Pakistan and the Gulf States. In the days of Pilgrimage to Makkah - Saudi Arabia. There are big ships carrying passengers to Saudia. But i am not sure whether they operate all the year through.

Taxis: Local Taxis and Richshaws in Pakistan
  • Tip Rating:
  • Whenever you plan to take a taxi but make sure that your Taxi driver knows the place where you wish to go ! If you by chance think of travelling in 'Ricksaws' - The Three weelers then make sure that they don't drive fast. The are usually comparitively cheaper than Taxis but not as safe as Taxis are ! so, be careful about Richshaws.

Travelling by Bus: Bus from Islamabad to Lahore
  • Tip Rating:
  • Travel from Islamabad to Lahore by Daewoo Bus Service - second to none. 4hours 30 mins journey; extremely comfortable seats which recline and have food tray; on board hostess service with food and drink; head phones for TV; one rest stop, and all for around $12 AUD. Warning: when booking I would suggest purchasing tickets at time of booking. On the return trip we booked but did not purchase tickets and when we arrived 30 mins before departure, they'd sold our tickets to others. We had to take a different bus service Niazi which was NOT the standard of Daewoo.

More than 25 airlines fly to Pakistan from over 40 countries. Most of the flights arrive at Karachi, but many flights also arrive at Islamabad and Lahore. PIA is the national flag carrier of Pakistan and their slogan is 'great people to fly with'. For domestic flights it is the most reliable airline. The flights to Northern Areas (Gilgit, Chitral and Shardu) throught mighty mountains especially K-2 and Nanga Parbat, are life time experience.

A visit to Lahore and other cities in pakistan is not complete without a ride in a Rickshaw. This was a fabulous experience and so much fun. Beware! there is NO suspension in these vehicles and your bones will rattle and shake. Dont be alarmed if a truck or donkey and cart come within millimetres of your rickshaw and you think you are going to die - you wont. These rickshaw drivers are so skilled and I never saw one accident in Pak during my time. I think the reason is that the roads are so congested no one is able to speed. I recommend taking a national with you to do the bartering and to give directions. Our ride was hilarious and with the driver yelling in Punjabi and my friend on his mobile ph to our other friends in a second rickshaw the whole scene was like something out of a comedy movie - but the driver didnt see the funny side. My friend was rolling with laughter at the Punjabi language. Unfortunately lost on me but i laughed at everyone else laughing.

Although there are some good roads in Pakistan (The motorway between Islamabad and Lahore, the road to Murree), most of the roads in Pakistan are more like a dirt bioke track than anything asphalt. Extremely hazardous road constructions, no lines markings, no direction signs, big potholes, and on top of that absolutely reckless drivers. Roads are officially declared war zones and even if you are very careful someone else driving a 10 ton truck would maul you over.
