by machomikemd Written Jul 4, 2014

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

part two of my tips with more pictures

this Full Service Chinese Restaurant is an iconic Dining Place in Angeles City as it is the oldest Chinese Restaurant in the City that started in 1966 and is almost 50 years old. Despite the Name Shanghai Palace, the cuisine here is mostly Cantonese (not Shanghai Cuisine) with some Hokkien Cuisine and Sichuan Cuisine too. The Restaurant is housed in a 3 story building and has a seating capacity of 1.500 persons, divided into the main dining room, the shabu-shabu room, three VIP rooms, and three large function halls.

opens: 10:00 am to 10:00 pm everyday

    according to their website:

Shanghai Palace Restaurant is one of the oldest existing Chinese restaurants in Angeles City. Originally named Shanghai de Luxe Restaurant, the establishment was born in 1966. Its first location was a small joint along Jake Gonzales Boulevard. The restaurant refurbished its image to a tastefully casual oriental restaurant as it grew in size and patrons. It inevitably relocated to McArthur Highway along the bustling Balibago business strip, where it is now an eminent landmark in Angeles City and has been serving Philippine presidents, politicians, international and local celebrities; and loyal patrons here and abroad.

Shanghai Palace Restaurant prides itself with authentic Chinese food from traditional recipes to contemporary dishes, each meticulously prepared with careful attention to details of color, aroma, flavor, and texture.

Favorite Dish: what else but the typical Cantonese Cuisine of Steamed Grouper in Light Soy Sauce at 800 pesos an order, Carb and Corn Soup at 280 pesos for a smal bowl, shanghai palace special fried chicken at 400 pesos an order, Pata Tim at 550 pesos an order, Yang Chow fried rice at 350 pesos for a large order.

Aling Lucing's Sisig: Where the National DIsh "Sisig" was Invented

by machomikemd Updated Jul 4, 2014

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This rundown shack near the Train Tracks in Angeles City is the Home of the "Sisig", which is one of the Most Popular Filipino Dish. It was said the the Matriarch who started the place bought pig heads that were never used by the Staff in the former US Airbase of Clark and she then made in 1974 a concoction of boiled and chopped pig ears and cheeks seasoned with vinegar, calamansi juice, chopped onions and chicken liver and served in hot plates and named it sisig.

the rest as they say is history

this place is crowded with people specially in the mornings and early evenings.

opens: 6:00 am to 3:00 am everyday

Favorite Dish: what else but the classig sisig, you should go here early as they run out of the classic sisig by 11:00 am and it cost 150 Pesos an Order. They also have seafood sisig at 130 pesos an order and other typical filipino food combination fare like the pork chop with veggies or chicken barbecue with veggies at 75 pesos an order

Meat Plus Cafe: Mid Priced Imported Steakhouse & Cafe

by machomikemd Written Jul 4, 2014

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Meat Plus Cafe was started in Subic in the 1990's and became an icon for those who want to eat USDA/Angus American Steaks at Cheaper Prices than the regular steakhouses and they now have a branch in Clark Freeport in Angeles City!

Meat Plus is Basically A Cafe/Steakhouse, it offers local and American Black Angus Steaks of different cuts and sizes (like ribe eye, porterhouse, t-bone, ground round, etc.) and some other stuffs like pasta, pizza's and soups.

    Open 10 am to 9:00 pm (Mon-Sun)

Favorite Dish: what else but the black angus steaks (especially th rib eye, medium well). Local steaks cost about 600 to 700 pesos with rice, buttered vegies and soups; pasta dishes cost about 250-300 pesos, burgers and Black angus Tapa's (filipino, not the spanish tapa ok!) at 250-300 pesos. Lengua estofado (ox's tongue in mushroom sauce) is about 280 pesos.

In ordering the Angus Steaks, you would get them in a chest freezer and choose according to type and size (between 500 to 1500 pesos) and there is a cooking charge of 100 pesos (including rice and buttered vegies). they are char-grilled in a char grill according to your type of doneness (medium rare, medium well, well done, etc.)

    L.A.BAKESHOP: great little cafe

by davidjo Written Jul 22, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

While visiting the old part of the city in Angeles we came across this delightful little bakeshop which was directly across the road from the university in Sto Rosario Street. The cheesebread was tasty at 5 peso each and there was a sign informing us that their bakery was the home of the original cheesebread (don't know if it is true but it certainly deserved the praise). There were other tasty treats on offer like pandesal, pan de coco and spanish bread, besides pasalubomgs (gifts) such as peanuts, cashews, etc.
If you are in the area, drop by and have a snack. Seats are difficult to find as it is frequented by many students from the university across the road.

MORE PASALUBONGS don't miss it tasty gifts

MARGARITA STATION: THAI, MEXICAN, AMERICAN FOOD

by davidjo Written Jul 21, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Located at 940 Field's Avenue this long established sports bar has excellent food and is open 24 hours a day, and is one of the more respectable places in the avenue. There are 2 pool tables that are more or less occupied all the time, beer is a reasonable price and there is always a waitress standing nearby to take your order. Our friends and I had 4 different selections from the menu, sloppy Joe, Thai Curry, Burger and mixed seafood. All were excellent and probably a reasonable price for that area of Angeles. The only drawback is, if you have a seat by the window facing the street there is a steady stream of locals trying to sell you things.

play pool the bar sloppy joe, half eaten

JENNY'S CARENDERIA: TRY IT , YOU WON"T BE DISAPPOINTED

by davidjo Written Jul 21, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

While not exactly a restaurant Jenny's Carenderia serves great food for 40 pesos including rice. We were just wandering around and had decided to eat at the shopping mall when we passed the table that contained all the pots of various foods. I normally don't eat at these places but Jenny was in the process of making tortas, fried eggplant in egg, so as it was freshly cooked we decided to eat here. My wife had bangus (milkfish) and we were both satisfied with her cooking. Jenny was very talkative and helpful informing us which jeepney to catch for our next destination.

a good selection torta and rice new sign JENNY

Island Grill: Nice Place to Chill and Hang Out

by charmonster Written Nov 8, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is my favorite place to hang-out after a hard day's work. It is located beside a golf course lake. Ambiance is very relaxed and laid back. (they have comfy couches) Acoustic bands perform on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. They serve drinks below zero. Its location is outdoors so I would not recommend going there on rainy days. Although they have huge tent-like umbrellas per table. You must also have your own ride because the place is not so accessible to commuters since it's inside Clark Freeport Zone.

Favorite Dish: Potato Skins, Hungarian Sausage, and the cocktails.

C Italian Dining: The Best !

    by drunkenmaster4 Written Sep 6, 2010

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Its already a popular restaurant well known for the delicious Italian food as it is owned by an Italian (does this automatically make is authentic?) chef. Everything we have tried so far are great but I love the cheese pizza. The only problem here is during peak tourist season and weekends, it's a bit diffuclt to get a seat.

    Googled this from the Internet:

"Located along Don Juico Avenue within Clarkfield in Angeles City, C' Italian Dining is a first-class restaurant that offers delightful dishes and highly efficient service for everyone. For only 400 pesos to 1,000 pesos, guests can enjoy satisfying meals at this outstanding dining facility. In terms of appetizers, people can always order any of the luscious treats available including famous and delectable Proscuitto e Melone, Cozza Torino, as well as C’ Classic Bruchetta. But for a special treat try the world famous Panizza which many travel all the way to Angeles from all over just to get a taste of this great dish.

In the meantime, for those who love distinct and mouthwatering rice meals, they can also try other in-house specialties such as Grilled Pork Crown Roast with Red Wine Reduction, Pan Roasted Pork Shoulder Steak with Lemon Wine Sauce, and Whole Lamb Shank Braised in Rich Red Wine Sauce. Aside from these tasty delicacies, the place is also famous for its cozy and relaxing ambiance."

    by ridgeline156 Updated Sep 4, 2010

Don Epoy Mexican Grill is a find, you can't even notice it next to holy angel university in angeles city.

food is simple mexican but tasty and affordable. they have a very nice ambiance and design of the place. just make sure you reserved the place before you go since it only occupies about 15 persons. they deliver too.

Favorite Dish: I love the steak burrito and steak platter it is so tender taste like they marinate it and they use tenderloin. They also have the Horchata (mexican drink)where in no body in Angeles serves this as im writing this review. dessert is the sopapillas (ice cream and chips) it is so good that the sweetness of the ice cream and saltiness of the chips blends.
