Sunset view of the Capitol Building
    2 more images

I am an early riser (or maybe I was just excited this time hahahahaha) no matter how…late I go to sleep……..every morning of Saturday and Sunday I walked around the lagoon in front of the Provincial Capitol of Negros Occidental…….

Its a nice thing to do……there are so many people doing their jogging and other stuff there…..like arnis……exercise,tai-chi and dancing……

I also saw some photographers catching an early photoshoot at the lagoon and the Capitol building......................

    Experience Sunset at the Ruins

by paolodecastro Updated Oct 26, 2011

    In front of the Ruins
    4 more images

The ruins is probably identifiable with Bacolod.....although its just recent that it was renovated and opened to the public......it has become one of the most popular tourist destination here.............

They said that the house is from a wealthy sugar baron who asked to burn his mansion before it became a garrison by the Japanese....the rest of the story the traveller has to find out from himself (you will enjoy the tour in the Ruins...asked for George as your tourguide)......

If you plan to go here....much better if you can see it during sunset and see how they said "the building turns to GOLD"........hahahahhahaaaha

The place is also good for pre-nuptial activity maybe wedding reception or concert I've heard Piolo Pascual (actor/singer in the Philippines)did his concert here a few years back.............;)

The tourguides can take your pictures...i think they went a workshop or they were trained to take nice pictures they don't ask for something in return...for taking your pictures......but it is much better if you can give them some small amounts.............;)

Some tourist visit this place before they go to the Silay airport...maybe to save time (you don't need nman to be here for many hours...just to make pictures...know the story of the mansion is good enough).

    Spending an hour here..will do.......
or if you like to be solo...take your moments (like i did) you can be here the whole day maybe reading a book......hahahhhahahhaaa

    ON Choosing Flight Schedule

by paolodecastro Updated Oct 26, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I booked myself in CEBU Pacific…….October 14, 2011 and its Friday….hotel check in is 2:00 pm so I booked at 3:30 pm (second to the last trip from Manila to Cebu, the earlier flight is I think at 10:00 am too early for the hotel check-inn).

Unexpectedly, the flight was delayed for three hours…….and the last flight from Manila to Bacolod was cancelled (Thank GOD I was not booked in that flight).

If you are aiming for the MASSKARA…….and your flight is cancelled just like that……it would be a knock-out for you in round one …...:)

Try to use PUV from Centennial 3

by paolodecastro Updated Oct 26, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you are in a budget…..try this. In my case, usually from airport to my office I spend Php 110-120.00 (about 3-4 US dollars) but when I use the public transpo…..now…..let me compute….:

I spend Php 20.00 (bus fare from Centennial 3 to Herritage hotel)………………
Then I spend Php 16.00 (jeepneys from Herritage hotel-MOA and from MOA-my office)…………………….

Php 120.00 (4 US dollars) if I will ride a taxi vs. Php 38.00 (1 US dollar) if I will ride PUV’s big difference isnt it…………….

By the way…the public bus in Centennial 3 is at the right portion (when you are goig out of the arrival area)

    Visiting the Balay Negrense

    Facade of Balay Negrense
    4 more images

They said that the house is just one of the three houses that became a museum in the area, Balay Negrense being the famous…..When I went here I asked myself “ there are so many old houses there…..why is that Balay Negrense became so famous”…I got my answer……This is the House of a former senator………

Nothing that is so special in this house…..for I am raised and still living in an ancestral house……and living in a province (my province s Bulacan) with many ancestral houses some much better than the Balay Negrense……is not that exciting anymore………….

I think that the only thing I got interested in this house is the bigger than bedroom toilet…hahahhahaha….don’t ….know how this house got that very big toilet…..

Another thing….is that..there are so many stories here (from guest) that they have experienced some ghost in the house)….that I don’t know….i did not have any eerie feelings when I went there………………

This is the form you have to fill-out....

You need the pass to get the best pictures of the event ( which means you will have an access on areas prohibted to the public)…….just visit the website www.cameraclubofnegros.com for the information (even if you do not intend to submitt your photo’s to the organizers).

During Masskara 2011the registration fee is Php 500.00 or 11 US dollars). I did not avail this …but now im telling everyone who would want to capture nice pictures of the festival must get this…..or else you will just get a so-so picture….if your lucky…..hhahahahaaa

Also what is Php 500.00 if you can get nman the best picture taht you can have in the Festival……..makes sense to me……………..;)

    Visit Pope John Paul Tower

by paolodecastro Updated Oct 25, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    View of the facade
    4 more images

This was built in honor of Pope John Paul II when he arrived in Bacolod and some pictures, furniture used by the pope are displayed here. The major challenge here is that it is I think a seven storey tower which you have to climb…because although theres an elevator…it is not working…..so you don’t have a choice…but to ready those feet for a hundred steps……to the top….but upon reaching the top….will give you a full view of the island..you can see the nearby islands here………

One more thing don’t think that it is for free……..You have to pay Php 5.00 if you are a student just present your ID (if you cant show this ID……you will have to pay for the adult price) and Php 20.00 if you are an adult.

There are also some souvenir items here from T-shirt to keychains to rosaries to prayer books………………So if you are in Bacolod…..try to Visit this place ok……

    When to go HERE

by paolodecastro Updated Oct 23, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I think if one is planning to have a vacation in Bacolod…much better if it will be scheduled in the month of October…….for the festival...(just like hitting two birds in one stone).....

Masskara is a week long event……and it is not practical to stay here all week long (if you are in a budget..or you don’t can’t afford that long vacation)…..I think that the best time to go here is the last weekend before the end of the festival…which they call the MASSKARA highlights…on Masskara 2011 the highlights was held October 14-16.

    Don’t be a CHICKEN

“Don’t be shy to ask for their picture…..you didn’t come all the way to Manila…….just to have nothing to show to your family and friends there…..”*…this is the words of Buena……it became a wake up call…………..

I said this because when the dancers are on the street doing the dancing parade…..there are ropes on both sides of the street with supporters or security holding the ropes…..which means you cannot cross the line…….....(well this is what happened if you didn't join the Masskara Photo contest)..............

But luckily……the dancers are very kind enough…..even it is “PROHIBITED” they will pose for you…..hahhahahaa……That is why I get some souvenir photos of the event……....well..... didn't travel a thousand miles just to get NOTHING...........................:)

Know the Itenerary and Venue of the Events

I think this is also one good thing……you want to see the MASSKARA festival right……so do your research right……don’t be caught off-guard on the changes of events and venues……you don’t want to miss a thing right……..;)

Usually the dancing competition is held in the Plaza and the street party is at the Lacson Street…(venues may change so be updated)

    Feeding the fish
    2 more images

One great activity there is to feed the fish (tilapia or carp)….. a person just needs to buy poprice for Php2.00…..in a store near the lagoon (see my picture) or don’t bother to walk for a few meters….some kids will just approach you and will ask you if you want to buy the poprice)

Did you know that the fish you feed in the lagoon are eaten by the prisoners………………not only it became a therapeutic to you but also it is an act of charity………..:)
