After shopping at Robinson's Mall, it is time to full our stomach with a lot of variety of merienda or meal packages to choose from.
I ate grilled tilapia while my wife Amor preferred coffee with Banana. It was a heavy meal needed for another round of shopping. Hate to shop with women.
When I was a child we do eat here on our way to Manila. It is the favorite stop of the Bus Drivers and their Conductors because they have freebies. Many years passed, the route to Manila was changed to Star Tollway which is away from Banay Banay. Still many afficionados eat here from neighboring barangays, town and cities who opt to use the way in going to and from Batangas Pier.
The food we ate were delicious - sisig, barbeque, sinigang na moslo (fish), mustasa (mustard) rice and bananas. So yummy that I felt I never left home. We were six hungry hippo and the bill was only $15!
We eat there when there is time.
I actually have in mind a restaurant where I will eat my lunch when a bumped to Reyes Barbecue in Robinson's - Lipa. I was quite adamant at first because Reyeses are known for hair cutting but nonetheless I tried. It was a surprise of my life! Not only are the food delicious but the crews are courteous and the price is cheaper than I expected. I ordered Bangus (Milkfish) Belly and it was so yummy that I forgot where will I go next. Heard that they also have branches in Manila and Laguna.
Favorite Dish: I like their grilled tuna and bangus belly and I already recommended it to my officemates and friends.
Take any Batangas City bound bus and get off at Bauan Diversion (fare is around 130 PHP). We took bus at Jac Liner in Buendia near LRT. From Bauan Diversion, you can take a jeepney going to Mabini (that will cost around 30 PHP) and tell the driver to drop you at the corner going to Philpan Dive Resort in Anilao. From there, you can take a tricycle going to Philpan (100 PHP/tricycle), which is the jump-off point. Alternatively, if you are about 10 or above members in the group you may opt to charter a jeepney (1,200 PHP) from Bauan diversion going to the jump-off point to avoid transferring from one jeepney to another. Across Philpan resort, you will see a cemented path going up, this is the start of the hike. Don’t forget to register first (20PHP).
If you're in Matabunkay in Batangas, rent a banka! It's a bamboo raft, and you can do some snorkelling, sunbathing, eathing & drinking. Try to do all at the same time? Maybe not... Only weird people like me do that. ;-)
Batangas just like most of the provinces rely largely in agriculture. Being strategically located no wonder Southern Tagalog Integrated Agricultural Research Center (STIARC) was established in Marawoy, Lipa City, Batangas. It is a dynamic Center that effectively responds to the needs of the agriculture sector in Region IV-A (CALABARZON) in support to the goals and objectives through excellence in Research and Development.
I was able to visit the Center when I attended a Fertilizer and Pesticides Seminar for those who will be venturing on the business. It was a wonderful experience as I thought that the government particularly the Dept.of Agriculture where STIARC is under is doing nothing to alleviate the flight of the agricultural sector.
Pandesal bread is the number one alternative for rice or kamote during breakfast. It is eaten with either scrambled or sunny side up egg, cheese, ham, bacon etc... What amazed me most when I went to a local bakery in Calapan, I found a pandesal flavored with malunggay. Although I know of the benifit of malunggay to a lactating mother never did I realize that it also essential to others.
Malunggay, known scientifically as Moringa oleifera Lamk, is one of the world's most useful plants. It is used as food, effective flocculant or water treatment, antibiotic, source of oil, and coagulant for turbid waters.
It is also called "mother's best friend", and "miracle vegetable" by many who know malunggay's beneficial uses. It is cultivated in all countries of the tropics. It is easy to plant and is available year-round.
When I visited Robinson's Mall in Lipa, Batangas I noticed Pan de Manila where I noticed this Pandesal with Malunggay. It tastes good! Try it!
