River Rafting 101
White water rafting is pretty safe even though it can get wild. Just remember the following tips to avoid injury:
1) Follow the guides instructions in paddling. Unless they say "hard forward", don't overexert yourself. You might need your strength later on for when it really matters.
2) Never lose your hold on the T-grip, even if you're not paddling. This can easily fly away and knock someone else unconscious or worse, bleeding.
3) Getting overthrown by the rapids or having your boat flip upside down is part of the fun. But this is unexpected, you might be gulping water, too. Don't panic, just hold your breath and wait for your body to float up. The guides will get you; they know the terrain pretty well.
4) Float feet first when you get overthrown. This is so you can protect yourself from the rocks, although strong currents will avoid that anyway.
5) Try paddling simultaneously to achieve balance and stable movement. You can do this by counting.
