    Clark Hot Air Balloon Festival

    by monina_c Written Mar 3, 2013

If you are in Clark or its surrounding area in February, better make a room for a visit to the Clark HAB Fest. It's the longest running hot air balloon festival in Asia. it participated in by balloonists from all over the globe. Aside from balloon ascensions there're a host of other aerial exhibitions like skydiving, paragliding, aerobatics, ultralight flights, RC aircraft displays, professional kite exhibitions and of course exhibits related to aviation (both military and civil). There are also a lot of kiosks offering food and goods (even tattoo stands) making it a good way to spend a full day.

The cost of entrance to the festival is currently P250/pax. The activities start rather early so plan to be there at around 5:30 a.m. if you plan on seeing everything :)
Oh okay! the HAB ascension starts at 6:30 a.m. but there are some interesting preliminary activities before that :)

The Fontana Leisure Parks and Casino is one of the many Hotels, resorts and casino complexes that are mushrooming at the former Clark Air Base and present Clark Freeport Zone. It is the second large complex to go up at the freeport after the Mimosa Leisure Resort and is way more popular than the Mimosa resort for both Locals and domestic and international tourists (like the mainly south koreans and taiwanese and mainland chinese) due to the more luxe and more varied amenities in the complex. The villas her are more grander, hotel rooms bigger, the casino larger, they have a big waterpark for both members and non members (I will do a separate tip for it), and they have a separate 9 hole golf course for golfers and they are connected to the 18 hole golf course of the nearby Mimosa Estate plus assorted shops, live bands on weekends and more

The Mimosa Complex is now under new Management

Mimosa was the first entity that went into Clark Free Port after it reverted to Philippine Sovereignty and they developed a 230 hectare area within Clark Freeport as an integrated Leisure and Resort Complex complete with a Holiday Inn Hotel, an 18 hole Golf Course, Casino, Private Villa's for rent, Swimming Pool, etc. but unfortunately, they were overtaken in Popularity by the Nearby Fontana Resort Complex and other mushrooming Leisure Spots in the Clark Freeport. Still it is a good place to unwind (if you have the money though) and relax and rent a private villa at the Montevista Villas (a villa costs 8,000 pesos a day and I will do a separate tips for the Montevista Villas) and play golf. Enjoy!

This is the new pictures of the Mimosa Complex on a revisit in 2012

Before there were many duty free shops in Clark Free Port that competed for shoppers (local residents have a $ 400 allocation per month and tourist whether local of domestic will have to pay 25 pesos for a $ 50 shopping card to be able to shop duty free (if your purchases totaled $ 200, then you will buy 4 ($50) shopping Card. At present, the duty free shops are not as numerous as before and the selections are mostly chocolates, canned goods, dry goods. Most of the Duty Free Shops are located in the C.M. Recto Higway area of Clark Freeport. Among the popular shops are Pure Gold Duty Free, DFS Duty Free Superstore, Oriental Duty Free and Parkson Duty Free.

On a revisit in 2012, i found out that you don't need to buy the $ 50 shopping card anymore, you can buy all the items at supposedly duty free as amny items you want.
