Max Brenner Chocolate Bar: Chocolate lover's Delight

by JaneCajuguiran Updated May 30, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The place is cozy and highlights its specialty - chocolate. sacks of cocoa beans, cinnamon bark, nutmeg and other spices are used and arranged very strategically to decorate the resto. Max Brenner makes its own chocolate and uses it in several ways - drinks, fondue, cookies, ice cream, etc. I love its fondue which can be shared by 2 to 4 persons - two fondue sets, one with dark chocolate and the other white, served with apple slices, cheese, chunks of bananas, ladyfingers and brownies and sprinkles of rice crisps, dessicate coconut and peanuts. Another one to try is that of the orange smoothie which is made from yogurt, cinnamon and other stuff without the orange but made to taste like it. Delicioso!

Favorite Dish: The fondue and the orange smoothie are favorites.

Gerry's Grill: Real Pinoy food in nice environment

by fbvdloo Written May 22, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Gerry's Grill is one of the most popular restaurants nowadays catering for the middle-class. If ya drop by in the evening you will see the place swamped with barkadas (groups of friends) who are enjoying typical Philippine food and affordable beers.

Favorite Dish: Sisig, Kinalaw and Bicol Express are my favourites. The great thing about this place is that the quality and service is excellent.

Bacalod Chicken: Bacalod Chicken the one and only

by fbvdloo Written May 15, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Previously, I went to Chicken Bacalod and was pretty disappointed since this wasn't the same taste I had envisioned. My buddy took me for a spin around his car and we ended up at Bacalod Chicken at Jupiter. We had Chicken Petso (see picture), chicken skin and a bucket of San Mig light for a total of 438.50 peso which was definitely worth it. We ended up in the smoking area which was pretty empty but rest of restaurant was pretty filled up. The waiters are very friendly and actually informed since they told as some anecdotes about fiestas in Bacalod. The menu is very fiesta like and the restaurant has pictures of the Bacalod fiesta on the wall. For good chicken go to this place and forgot about Chicken Bacalod because for Chicken inasal one has to go to the original one: Bacalod Chicken.

David's Tea House: Though the name sucks food is ok

by fbvdloo Updated May 10, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The place is located on Legazpi street right behind Greenbelt (the eat, drink and parade place in Makati). They are trying to mix between a middle budget and a chinese place. If only they would have a better location and kept the same prices than I would recommend the place

Favorite Dish: The sweat and sour pork was ok (135 peso around 2.5 usd) and I have to admit the siomai was excellent (70 peso). T

Via Mare: Another Great Local Restaurant

    by DJ_Rolo Updated May 2, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Via Mare's is a nice little restaurant located in Powerplant mall in Rockwell. I belive there are others around the city too. They serve the local Filipino cuisine. Here the service was great, everyone was friendly. The food was really good too. I tried bits and pieces of plenty of the dishes and liked most of it. It was cool too, i ate here with an actress from the Philippines, and the staff knew her. She really wanted a dish that they didnt have, so the waiter went to the another restaurant in the mall and got it for her, it was cool.. now thats service..

Dencio's: Gotta try the local cuisine

    by DJ_Rolo Updated May 2, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Dencio's is great local Filipino cuisine. Ive eaten at two locations, one at Rockwell Powerplant Mall and the other at Eastwood City in Libis. Both locations were clean and the service was excellent. Although i am Filipino I never took too well to Filipino foods. Well my trip to the Philippines changed all that. Dencio's was one of the reasons. There are some dishes here that i really didnt know, so i stuck to the ones that i did. I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. If you ever get the chance to eat here i think you should try the sinigang, Kare Kare and the Beef Caldereta. All were fabulous. Another thing you have to try is the Mango Salad. This was something new to me but it is very good. One dish my friends always order is the sisig. This is something very big in the PI. Im not a big fan of it, but everyone i know loves it. Im sure there are plenty of other great dishes, ya just got to experiment....

Favorite Dish: I will try and explain the dishes i mentioned above, but i doubt ill do them justice.. you just gotta try them...
Sinigang is a sour soup, the more sour the better!!! you can have it with chicken, beef or fish. Kare Kare is beef, oxtail and tripe in a peanut buttery like soup, you eat it with rice and mix in a little thing called bagoong. I dont eat the tripe, but everything else is good. Mango salad, they give you sliced up mango pieces and you mix it with this sauce. Sisig is Lechon - pork. Let me know what you think!!

    Next Door: Great Chinese

    by DJ_Rolo Updated May 2, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Chinese / Dim Sum is really good here. Next Door is part of the North Park restaurant chain. I believe they changed the name because there is a North Park about 1/2 a block away. The restaurant is clean, the service is above average, there is a guard at the door and the food is really cheap, well i guess everything is cheap compared to the food here in LA.

Favorite Dish: I dont really have a favorite, everything is pretty good. Im not a seafood lover but my friends say the seafood here is fabulous, especially the shrimp dishes.

    Tachiban: Eat on the floor..

    by DJ_Rolo Updated Mar 25, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a pretty cool Japanese restaurant. It is located on the 2nd floor of Makati Palace hotel on P. Burgos st. It is decorated with a traditional Japanese theme, paper lamps, Japanese character posters, bamboo etc. When you enter, to the left is a sushi bar, to the right is the regular seating and kinda straight towards the back are tables on the floor. This is where i like to sit. You have to take your shoes off, go up 1 step and sit on the floor. The one thing about this part is, there is a square hole under the square table, so you can actually sit regular with your feet dangling and you dont have to sit indian style with your legs crossed. This is a little more comfortable. Along with the ambience I like the food here too. I get pretty nervous about eating sushi. But all the Sushi we ordered seemed pretty fresh. It was pretty good too. Ive eaten here a few times and most times ive ordered the bento box with teriyaki chicken. Its really good. My cousins like it here, but my friends dont think its that great. So go try it out and decide for yourself...

BTIC: Taking the cream out of Ice Cream

by JaneCajuguiran Written Feb 26, 2006

Not actually taking the cream because it is still yummy but taking the fat out of the cream. BTIC (for Better Thank Ice Cream) is yogurt that is made into ice cream sans the fat. they also have low fat and sugar free yogurt. Wouldn't you enjoy this?

Favorite Dish: Bubblegum and Rocky road are the best for me.

The Seafood Club by Red Crab: The Reddest Crab in town

by JaneCajuguiran Written Feb 11, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Just thinking about the succulent crabs makes my mouth water. The Seafood crab has the reddest crabs you can think of. On top of that, this is offered in their buffet - as in eat all the crabs you like. They have a different menu every day to appeal to the most discriminate diner.

Favorite Dish: Szechuan Crab - spicy without dominating.

Shakeys Pizza: Thin Crust Pizza Pies!!!

    by DJ_Rolo Written Jan 28, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

So im sitting in my hotel room craving a taste of something back home. I decided to order some Shakeys pizza, thin crust, just the way i order it at home. It arrived in about 30 mins and it was the best pizza ever!! Ok i say that about all good pizza, but this was really the s*** i swear. There is something about the pizza here, it doesnt taste like the Shakeys at home, i guess its a little sweeter, but its sooooo good... It came to about $7-$8 plus tip for a Large pizza and mojos which was enough for 3 guys.
