The Davao airport is very roomy and clean. When you arrive there are no hordes or warm bodies pressing you. You get out, cross the street where you get to the main arrival area. Metered taxis form a line to the left.

Boat Trip to Samal Island
2 more images

To get from Davao to the Paradise Island Park & Beach Resort on Samal, take a jeepney towards the airport with the destination "Sasa" for P8. Ask the driver to stop at the Sasa Pier next to the Caltex oil tanks. From there it's a few steps to the boat that will take you over to Paradise Island Beach; it costs P5/person, or P50 for the boat. Boats leave between 5:30am-5pm. It is a short boat ride to the island and the trip is pleasant.

Joey & his cab

Unless you're already on Mindanao, you better take a plane. From the USA it's a very long flight, but the experience is well worth the travel time.

There are numerous methods of transportation available in Davao. There are tricycles, a cart with a motorcycle attached to transport people and there are also jeepney's, which are like a bus. I found the best way to travel was by taxi.

We had a few different taxi drivers, but the best, most reliable, honest and safest was Joey. Joey is reliable, has a clean cab, drives safely, known his way around the area, and he's punctual. What more could you ask for? If you use him tell him I recommended him and say hi to Joey for me! He's a great guy!

He can be reached loaclly in Davao at cell phone number 0919429-4295, or 0920-367-0489 (Joey & his cousin Edgar).

Fr Manila take a plane {1 hr & 20 mins PAL, AirPhil & Cebu Pacific P6,000 R/T) or go by sea (Superferry 3x a week, Sulpicio Lines. P1,500+ O/W) or a scenic route through Pan-Philippine Hi-way which passes 2 Roro Ports (Matnog-Allen, Samar and Maasin, Leyte-Surigao City) it'll take approx. 2 to 3 days. Other flights to Davao from the ff cities; Cebu (Major Airlines P1800+), Cagayan de Oro (SEA Airlines P1,850 O/W), Zamboanga (AirPhil)
Fr Singapore take a Silk Air Flight via Cebu.
From Davao International Airport/Sasa Wharf (about the same area) you can catch a taxi (P70+) going to the City proper or take a tricycle+jeepney (normal fare is P4/head depending on dist). If you opt to stay in an upper class hotel, there are hotel shuttle buses waiting at the airport terminal for free.
Hotels: There are numerous hotels in the City. Marco Polo Hotel, Grand Regal and Casino, Waterfront , Royal Madaya, Apo View. For the budget traveller: Sampaguita, (P300), Manor & Algems, (P450) Bagobo, Galleria, Casa Leticia, Sychar Hotel, Regency , & Orange Grove, (hi-recommended), Roadway & Villa Margarita. Prices on the said Hotels are not more than P800++.
Getting around Davao: The primary means of transportation are jeepneys, taxicabs (P20 flag-down rate N-A, P25 Aircon). Going inside and outside subdivisions and villages there are tricycles (P4 reg. fare).
Must see : Paradise Island Resort, (Daytime entrance fee is P50/head). Pumpboat ride fr. Sasa to Paradise (P6/head). Pearl Farm Beach Resort. Philippine Eagle, Eden Resort.
Restaurants & night life; Jacks Ridge, Dencios Hilltop, Delongtes Ihaw-Ihaw. The Venue (P100) & Matina Town Square, Dannys Place, Cyntias, Rizal Promenade, Summit Bar
For Durian eaters you can go to Magsaysay Park and Durian Park
For tuna lovers you can buy your frozen pangas, buntot & belly at Citra Mina Seafood Market.
For more info you can email me at nissansafari2002@yahoo.com. I would be glad to help you in any way that would make your trip to Davao a more memorable one. Jong & Jong Co.

From Manila, you can take direct flights of Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific or Air Philippines. Flying time is approximately one hour and 35 minutes. From Cebu, Davao is 55 minutes away. One can also fly to Davao from Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga City. One can also take the longer but infinitely more exciting island route via the Pan Philippine Highway from Manial to Davao. Likewise, numerous passenger ships dock at Davao from other ports around the country. International airlines connect Davao to key cities in Asia
It's advisable to travel light. Apaprt from the fabled jeepney, taxicabs are plentiful as well. One can also avail of the numerous rent-a-cars. Inquire from the hotel concierge.
