RA's souvenir shop at Aldevinco's;Rosario's Durian: Davao Must Buys!

by ainemesor

We have relatives in Davao so we paid them a visit. (We just arrived last night.) I remember my niece used to bring home durian candy for me (which I love!)Locals would say the best tasting durian candy has to be Lola Abon's. But according to one vendor at the Phil. Eagle Conservation Center, she has a brand similar to Lola Abons. For those who like not so sweet candies, a contrast huh! Try Rosario's durian candy. Rosario's (DOST Assisted product according to the label) the best durian candy I have tasted. Not too sweet but rich in flavor.I only bought one pack (50 pcs) for Php20.00 because I thought I could easily find the same brand at Aldevinco's at a cheaper price.I couldn't find any I need to tell my niece to buy me at least 2 dozens when she spends her vacation here in Laguna next month. Of course, I'll send her the money. Below is the contact details of Rosario's, I bet it's a lot...

Citra Mina Seafood Shop

by worknplay

Vacuum-packed tuna and other processed seafood products. Their staff will pack the stuff you buy to make it easy for you to lug it back to Manila. Prices are very cheap compared to the groceries back in Manila. I was able to get Gindara slices for 23 pesos each!

Aldevinco Shopping Center: Aldevinco Shopping Center

by worknplay

A perfect place to get most of your "pasalubongs". The center is comprised of small shops that sell a lot of stuff from freshwater to south sea pearls, native handbags, home decor to woven cloths from the local tribes in Mindanao.

Bargains in Wet Markets

by sardine123

It will be easier to get the better prices if you have a Filipino friend that comes along to bargain for you. If there are no prices listed on the items you want to buy, or if there are prices, it will be much easier to get a really good price if foreigners don't show their face with the person that is bargaining. The foreigner should peruse about to find the items that he or she wants, then the Filipino friend should go bargain for these items. Many times, the salesperson will be fair to everyone but in many cases there will see the foreigner as having more capacity to pay higher prices and therefore will attempt to get a higher price for the item.If you are a foreigner by yourself it will be helpful just to let vendors compete against each other in order for you to get a lower price. Keep in mind that sometimes vendors within these markets don't speak English as well as other Filipinos...

Aldevinco Shopping Center: Malongs and Tinalak

by billbing

A souvenier shop This is where you can find locally made products made out of "tinalak". It is a material woven by the T'boli which they usually use for their marriage rituals. This has become their means of livelihood today and they wove the abaca fiber manually. You will appreciate the artistry of the natives when you see the "tinalak". Nowadays, they are made into bags, shoes, slippers and decors. This is where you can find also malongs and batik. You can also find woodworks by the inmates of Davao Penal Colony. You need to bargain so that you will not feel cheated. You can find a lot of money changer here also.

Magsaysay Park Fruit Stalls: Cheap Durian and Davao Pomelo

by bike_packer

At Magsaysay Park, a string of fruit stalls sell local fruits. The most visible is the sweet local citrus Davao pomelo and the creamiest fruit, King>>durian. The place is where jeeploads of these fruits from the plantations are unloaded. And since a good number of stalls in one place, the selling price here are competetively low, and considering a lot to choose from. Haggle is the name of the game. basically Davao Pomelo and Durian cheapest in town

Virgie's Fruit Cart: Fresh fruits from fruit carts

by asianbelle

Davao has the sweetest and juiciest pink pomelos I have tasted. My visit to this city is not complete if I don't buy crates of them to take home. Normally, one piece is equivalent to one kilo and if you want to buy several pieces, the seller is more than willing to pack them in wooden crate. A crate can accommodate 10 kilos and comes free of charge. Pomelos are priced according to size. The oversize fetches a price of P60/kilo, while the export quality overrun is P70/kilo.
