Eat Durian!

by tsokoholic

Davao is where you'll find the best Durian. The local variety (more pungent and a bit bitter) and the Thai variety (less punget & sweeter) both abound here. harvest season is usually August-November. Durian is said to be an aphrodisiac! It is widely believed that if you wash your hands & drink water from the shell of the durian, the smell will be reduced considerably.Be sure not to eat durian and drink beer or alcohol at the same time. It could be fatal. Durian is best with just plain water or a bottle of Coke.

Eden Nature Park - Veggie & Herb Gardens

by suroyista

Whether you're a green-thumb person or not, you will surely love this wonderful sight - the vegetables and herbs garden. You cannot help but admire the resort's local gardeners. Just imagine the world without these people, there will be no salads in our tables. ;o) As the shuttle passes by these gardens, you can smell the fresh scents of all the herbs... and makes you crave for some fresh salad. Good thing the day tour includes a lunch buffet where you can surely satisfy that craving. Eden Nature Park - Nature Tree-ping!

by suroyista

Facts About Eden:A mountain resort 3,000 feet above sea level, Eden Nature Park is 95% man-made! It is a great model of how we can re-create nature and rebuild a lost environment. Discovered sometime in 1971, the resort used to be a logged-over area covered only by a blanket of wild grass. Its potential was, however, readily seen by the owners as the property provided an imposing view of Davao City and the Davao Gulf. Not long after, terraces were carved out of the mountain slope, and thousands of pine tree seedlings were planted. As the pine trees grew, they provided canopies allowing other trees and plants to grow and creating a secondary forest. Today, there are over 100,000 pine trees spread throughout 80 hectares, providing a refreshing backdrop to the various attractions in Eden Nature...

Eden Nature Park - Good Eats!

by suroyista

The "Pick & Eat" salad station in the buffet is something to look forward. Not just because it is something unusual, but also because you get to taste what you actually saw in their vegetable gardens - the lettuce, the tomato, etc. How good is that? ;o)My hubby loved their native fried chicken and the fruits are super sweet. Just cant get enough... ;o)The restaurant has glass walls that give diners an ambiance of outdoor dining.************************************************************************************************************Facts About Eden:A mountain resort 3,000 feet above sea level, Eden Nature Park is 95% man-made! Eden Nature Park - Go for the Horse!

by suroyista

The Eden Fields is actually a new addition to the whole Eden experience. This particular field is intended for ball games, such as volleyball & soccer. The Zipline and Horseback riding activities are also found here. It also has a big playground for kids to play for free. In order to get to the Field, you have to get out from the main Eden Resort. It is located right across the street. Horseback riding in Eden is another great way to enjoy the resort. For only Php 50.00 per person, you get to ride the horse and tour around the whole Eden fields. If you're a Pro, you can ride on your own... but if you're not, there's always stand-by guide to go with you as you tour around. The guide has no additional charge but it wouldn't hurt ones pocket to give a little tip after the ride. ;o)Sadly, we were not able to get a Zipline ride due to a heavy rain....

Interesting photo opportunity

by iclee

When visiting the Philippine Eagle Center, you'll see a whole gamut of hawkers plying their trade. Trinkets, bags, malongs, shawls, candies, durian, lanzones, rambutan at prices lower than the usual market. Focus your sight in one of the shops and you'll see an albino snake carried by a lady. She claims bathing and putting lotion on the snake. You can have your picture taken for a token. I gave P50 and had my picture taken with albino boy. When he snake started to squirm and move, I was disgusted with the way it rubbed my neck. Ewww!

Don't leave Davao without sampling fresh durian

by iclee

Durian is so abundant and cheap in Davao so I suggest that you try out this tropical fruit. Some are offended by its smell but I find its flesh too delightful to resist.Try the local variety first then the Puyat variant.

Largest eagle in existence

by iclee

Largest? Some may contest this and say nope, it's the Wedgetail from Australia or the Steller's Sea Eagle. But I certainly believe that it is worth trekking to see such an impressive bird. The land trip from Davao city lasted at least 45minutes so plan ahead. If you have a DSLR with zoom, then bring it. It will worth lugging that heavy thing around. :) They have falcons, eagles, monkeys, deers, crocodile, snakes, etc. Open 8am - 5pmEntrance fees P50 (U$1=P44) for adults and P30 (18below) for minors at PENC. Davao City Water District charges P5 for adults while P3 for children when you arrive at the entrance. Majestic....all I can say about this Philippine wonder :)
