ATM Center
There are lots of ATM around Manila and you will find ATM center as well in the malls. The maximum withdrawal per transaction is only Php 4,000.00 but of course it's depends on the bank. Just be careful, as much as possible and try not to withdraw your money in the public ATM machine.

preventive medicine; shots
When traveling through asia, I think that it's always a safe thing to do. Today when you get a hepatitis shot you'll get a series of three over, I think 6 months. You can catch hepatitis anywhere, even in the states eating from dirty utensils. Same is true throughout asia. Typhoid can be a problem as well but not as prevelant, but again safe is better. Should you decide to get the shots, remember to allow for enough time for the hepatitis shots.
Good luck!

Christmas 09 n the Phillippines
Yes the Phillippines is a christian country, 95%+ Catholic so they celebrate Christmas in a big way. Your biggest problem would be timing your travel plans around the time everyone goes home to celebrate as the buses will be packed! and the roads busy. I would say at least 3 days before, up to Christmas day and the same for New Years to extend to 2-3 days after NY's day. Expect it to be busy and seats limited. Patience is the name of the game, which can be said for any time you are traveling in PI.
You may also want to check with your accomodations to make sure they do have or not have "compulsary dinners" and higher rates. Most of them will have this over the holidays on Christmas and New Years day. Sometimes the rates can be as much as 3X the normal rate, so be prepared for that.
Good luck and have FUN!

You must get around by...
You must get around by Jeepneys, they are just so cool! I wish we had them in Canada. If you are going to travel around Luzon, you must go by Auto Bus Transport Systems Inc. From Manila to Santiago it will cost you about 295.00P. Say 'Kumusta' to my father in-law Johnny Mabborang, he will be you bus inspector.

My new family! I was just married in the Philippines.
I really miss the kindness of all the people!

You must visit Boracay - the beautiful beach island.

Cebu is also great and if you can afford to stay at the Shangri-la on Mactan Island, go for it.

my fondest memories are the food and shopping at the market places. you can get the most beautiful things. if they do not have it, all you have to do is show a picture and it can be made for you.

motorcycling through the countryside
i think simply watching the people and going around and observing how things happen or enjoying the theater of everyday life.

i rode on the back of a motorcycle through manila and out into a countryside. it was fascinating seeing the slums and urban jungle melt away into fisheries and then rice farms. stopping at times by nipa huts and seeing people obvlious to me laughing and running around.
