here are some local dishes you might want to try

by TRAVELCHICK29

If you want to sample some local dish but don't know what to get, here are some foods that my non-Filipino friends enjoy eating: pancit (thin noodles with vegetables and pork or shrimp), small eggrolls, chicken or pork adobo (cooked in soysauce and vinegar). these are just some suggestions, feel free to experiment. Note: if you see pork in "chocolate sauce" on the menu, it is actually pork in pig's blood! But most of our foods are pretty decent and edible

pamper youself without the guilt

by TRAVELCHICK29

everything here is relatively cheap so you can take time to pamper yourself without feeling the guilt of overspending. Lots of spas or "relaxation therapies"available in resorts or even in big shopping centers. I even saw a massage center while waiting in the airport!I have a friend who said she had a body massage for about ten dollars. Although I haven't got the chance for any spa treatment, I had a great haircut done by a senior hairstylist in a chic beauty salon (i forgot the name) and only paid four dollars!

motorcycling through the countryside

by miromi

i think simply watching the people and going around and observing how things happen or enjoying the theater of everyday life. i rode on the back of a motorcycle through manila and out into a countryside. it was fascinating seeing the slums and urban jungle melt away into fisheries and then rice farms. stopping at times by nipa huts and seeing people obvlious to me laughing and running around.

Guimaras' Mangoes

by syllybabe

I have conceded to the fact that Thailand's fruits are generally sweeter than ours but one fruit that I can boast of for unparalleled sweetness is our mango. They're grown everywhere in the country but the ones grown in the island of Guimaras are known to be the best. While you're here, indulge! They're available at most fruit stands most of the year.

Billboards are big business

by syllybabe

We're highly impressionable. We like billboards because it reminds us of things we want to buy or use. Billboards are everywhere especially in Manila. This one on the pic can be seen right after the bridge in Guadalupe, Makati and it always seems to change everytime I'm in Manila.

Spain's legacy

by syllybabe

The Philippines is the only predominantly Catholic country in Asia. This is due to Spain's 300yr. reign. From the time Magellan first anchored on our shores in 1521 til the Americans took over in the late 1800's, our people have taken in not only Catholicism but other Spanish traits as well. Even food here is influenced by a touch of Spain. This photo is of the San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod City. Churches similar to this one can be found in almost every town or city around the country.

Blue

by syllybabe

Yes, you're seeing blue. Our waters do get as blue as this especially in Boracay but you can find these blue waters around most of our islands...especially in the Visayas. Check out beaches in Cebu, Bohol, and off Negros and Panay.

The sun rises in the east

by syllybabe

Remember that and try to wake up to catch one of the beautiful sunrises we have in this pearl of the orient.I've seen spectacular sunsets but I favor sunrises for the promise of newness that it brings with it as it gives itself to us everyday. I woke up at 530am last summer to capture that lone fisherman's boat on the water. I've been wanting to go back to Escalante since then if only to capture more sunrises.

Bangaan Church and School

by herzog63

The valley village of Bangaan is in such a beautiful setting! The weather was perfect when we did our hike there. It is an idylic village with friendly people and great kids. Everyone seemed to just go about their daily stuff as we passed by them. It was a great experience for my son and I. To reach Bangaan you must first go to Banaue then take a local bus to Batad then it's about a 30 minute hike from there. No roads to Bangaan!!

Baguio Cathedral - It's pink..

by herzog63

For me the color of the Baguio Cathedral is odd but it sits high up on a hill overlooking Baguio and gives you some nice views of the area. The Cathedral played an important part of housing people during World War II. For me the funnest way to get there is via the long set of steps that leads up from session rd. But if your not into stair climbs there is a road that takes you right to it. Just so you know ...Session road is a fairly steep street as it goes up the hill. There are many small shops and a couple of small malls that are on Session road so it's a great place to wander around and people watch. You will see tons of college age students as Baguio has several colleges now and the weather isn't hot like the lowlands.
