by albertus72

Banaue Rice TerracesThe spectacular rice terraces around Banaue, in north Luzon, have been described (like a lot of other places) as the eighth wonder of the world. Carved out of the hillside by Ifugao tribespeople 2000 to 3000 years ago, these remarkable terraces stretch like stepping stones to the sky.

See the Countryside. Manila has a few nice places, but out of the cities the Philippines is green and very beautiful. Boating across the water in the bright sunshine and seeing the amazing Islands, and snorkeling in the crystal clear water.

Guimaras Island

by palmesian

Guimaras island is the nearest island from the city of Iloilo (my place) with many beautiful beach resorts. Also, this island is peopled by one of the friendliest locals here in the Philippines. If you are a tourist, don't be afraid to ask for directions because the people here are helpful and might even invite you to stay at their homes for free. This island has one of the lowest crime rates all over the Philippines. Maybe, the beauty of the island is so contagious for it reflects on the kindness of the people.....I really recommed this place for the travelers to visit.... besides, this is very near our city. Who knows, I might see you there one of these days.....

by palmesian

This is just one of the many islands (1107 islands) we have in the Philippines. Usually, they are classified as corral-reef islands. If you want to observe the richness of life underneath the sea, then you can visit one of these islands and do either snorkelling or scuba diving. Who knows? You might decide to stay underneath forever.... no, it is not your world out there. Just visit them and tell the world that we should protect our environment for their sake and for our sake. Protecting this natural habitat makes us a protector of ourselves for if we destroy them, we destroy ourselves in the process.....

by palmesian

This is a typical vacation hut made of nipa, bamboo, and wood. All parts of this hut is made of native materials. This kind of resting place is a common accomodation provided in beach resorts. I still prefer to stay in this place over hotel accomodations when going to beach resorts. This place blends naturally to the ambience of the place. Staying in this place makes your experience of beach life more real and natural....if you want to go to the hotel, the beach is not for you.

by palmesian

Manila is the famous city in the Philippines because the center of government is located there. However, if you would like to taste the typical life of Filipinos, don't just stay at the big city. Our country is composed of many islands and each island is populated by people speaking their own dialect. The true spirit of Filipino life can be felt by spending your time in these small islands. In Manila, life is very westernized and the behavior of the people is largely influenced by this western culture. The picture shows a typical hut that usually can be found along the beach. Staying in this hut is a refreshing feeling especially during summer. You don't need any airconditioning because the material of this hut is a good insulator and ventilation against summer heat. Staying in this place without doing anything - no one around except yourself --- full of silence......

imho's General Tip

by imho

Baguio City is oftentimes considered a 'cheesy' tourist destination, even by Manila folk, perhaps because of its campy attractions like the manmade lake on Burnham Park or the view (or what's left of it) from Mines' View. But the Philippines' Summer Capital will always have a special place in my heart. And there's a lot more to it than pine trees and strawberry jam! (please see my Baguio travelogue for more)

Swimming with the whale sharks (butanding) in Donsol, Sorsogon. The magnificent creatures gather in large numbers from November to May every year in the waters of Donsol to feed on plankton, and in January we had the opportunity to swim with four of these gentle giants (in just one morning!). The 13 hour land trip down South was well worth it!
