by cyberhunk

try riding the Philippine Jeepney. Fondly called jeep, this icon of Philippine travel has been part of the our country's culture since the liberation of Manila way back circa 40. You also must not forget to visit the beautiful, sun-drenched, white-sand beaches across the archipelago. You should never fail to visit the Philippines natural attractions like kawasan falls of cebu, pagsanjan falls of laguna, mt. mayon of bicol, chocolate hills, mag-aso falls and hinagdanan cave of bohol and a lot more. Foods like bagoong (shrimp-paste), chicharon, home-made puto or kakanin (rice puddings), native longganisa (sausage)from lucban, nueva ecija or ilocos, and many many more. Places like makati, malate, morato, katipunan.

by hermionesola

Explore the North. I know that a lot of travellers come to the Philippines for the beaches in the South and that's great. But circling the North is truly unforgettable. I did that with two friends, Leda and Io, during a five-day break in 1999, and it was definitely an experience. The ideal itinerary is: Manila - Vigan - Laoag - Pagudpud - Aparri - Tuguegarao - Isabela - Banaue - Bontoc - Sagada - Baguio - Manila. I covered those places in two separate trips, spending less than a $100 on each. I'll tell you more about it. Maybe in a travelogue.

by debankh

Go to Pagsanjan Falls and take a canoe up river to see the Falls. Be sure not to miss out and take the raft under the Falls before you head back. Visiting de La Salle University was my fondest memory. The students there held a welcome party for us that included pigs roasted on a spit and a colorful show of traditional dances. My favorite was the pole dance which they gave us a demonstration of and then we got to join in. The pole dance is two long bamboo poles that a pair holds and in rhythm with the music they close them together and then open them hitting the ground with them. The dance is done over the poles and you have to be sure your feet go in when the poles are open and then back out when they close them which requires a lot of coordination!

by DellyM

Mix and get to know some of the local people. We did, and it opened up a completely different side to our holiday. We felt like we were part of the family with the people who befriended us in Cebu. Although there are horror stories of people being friendly, then drugging and robbing you, we only met honest and sincere locals. My fondest memory is of the people. Although the landscape is beautiful and there's so much to see and do, it was the friendly people who took us into their homes and their hearts which made this a very special place to me.

Must be done when in the Philippines? SOCIALIZE! The only way to maximize and get the best out of your trip in the country is to meet with the locals and go around with them! THE SMILES!! It's not at all over-rated...I'm a native but the warmth and hospitality of my fellow Filipinos amazes even me. Its really something else. Philippines is a relief to leave behind but so heartwarming to return to.
