24 hours Service Gas Stations:

by mlt_t

There are three major petrol companies operating in my country. Petron, Shell and Caltex. The industry has now been deregulated, allowing the introduction of new competitors, such as PTT and TOTAL. Filipinos have been demonstrating against rising fuel prices, but, in reality, petrol is the cheapest in Asia but not anymore because of the price hike and economy crisis that we are having right now.The major petrol companies are currently upgrading facilities, with the establishment of giant super stations along busy expressways and highways. These have excellent facilities, comprehensive stores (Petron Treats, Shell Select, Caltex Starmart) and, often, associated businesses, such as Mc Donald’s, Jollibee and Burger King. At the bottom end of the scale, in small rural centers, facilities consist of one or two pumps, with a limited range. And sometime they had limited times around Province...

Between 21degrees Celsius (80 deg Fahrenheit) Seasons Dry, December to May;Wet, June to November

Filipino artist and craftsman

by mlt_t

Filipino artist and craftsman are remarkably talented and our products are often display roadside. Of particular note are the artwork and woodcarving of Rizal and Pampanga, the weaving of Laguna and the Cordilleras and the abaca and homemade paper product of Bicol.

A variety of Native Food on sale

by mlt_t

Our roads and highways are dotted with stalls selling local produce and handicrafts, often at bargain prices. As a general rule, produce sellers will not lower their prices significantly or depends on the season of product, though handicraft seller may offer you big reductions. The correct term to use when asking for a price reduction is to ask for ”tawad”(discount). Always remember the prices are already far lower than you will find in the markets, supermarkets and handicraft stores in Manila.

Philippine Visas

by arni_ph075

Almost all nationalities with valid passport are automatically issued with a 21 day visa, its Free of Charge. Exceptions are stateless persons and citizens of countries that dont have diplomatic relations with the Philippines. The Philippine Embassies and consulates in other countries issue 59 day visa but it should be obtained prior departing to Phils. It is also possible to have your visa be extended up to 6 months, just go to authorized travel agencies and visa assistance centers nationwide.

Filipino loves FOOD!

by arni_ph075

Filipino loves Eating and its a major part of daily life. We eat 5 times a day. Breakfast, merienda, lunch, afternoon merienda, dinner. Sometimes with midnight snacks :-) All meals if possible should have rice. Any guest that arrive on our homes, we will offer the best meals, usually our lspecialty dish even if guest arrive without notice. Its a habit that any guest that arrive should be offered a meal or snacks. Filipino cuisine is a fusion of Spanish, Chinese and American. The staples are fish, vegetables, pork and chicken. Rice of course. Beef is not that popular, aside from being expensive, locals dont like the strong smell. Lechon (roasted pig) is served on special occassion, prime dish and every one like it. Adobo be it pork or chicken (cooked with soy sauce and vinegar) is the widely popular regular dish, authentic Filipino food. Every region in the country got specialty dish and...

Language

by arni_ph075

The country got two official languages,Tagalog (politically correct term is Filipino) and English. Filipino is originally the language only of Manila and its nearby provinces, but now since it was taught in schools nationwide, its incorporated on other dialects across the country. Very high majority of the Filipinos speak fluent Tagalog, English and a dialect of his home province. Some of the local dialects are Cebuano,Waray,Bicolano, Ilocano,Kapampangan and Ilongo. And on each dialect, like Bicolano, there are sub dialects..like Bicol Naga, Bicol Legaspi..and the terms they use are very different, yet they understand each other..Another evolving language is .. Taglish, is the term coined for Tagalog English languange that is now popularly used on most urban areas. English is the official language in commerce, government and laws, and taught in schools. During my school days, all subjects...

Money Matters: Cash, Credit Cards

by arni_ph075

Currency is the Philippine Peso, prevailing exchange rate is P60 to US$1. The exchange rate is on the upswing, as there are financial problems being faced by the govt. It is always recommended to exchange money on licensed money changers found in the malls and of course at the banks.Banco de Oro is the bank that offer a very good exchange rate compared to other banks. SM malls FOREX also offer good rates. There are also fake bills, (very seldom)so be wary of receiving change of bills with denomination of 500 and 1000 bills. Most traveller's checks are accepted in banks, but it should be on almost perfect condition.Visa, Mastercard, are widely accepted in most establishments, you will see on the entrance of stores, the logos of the 2 card company. American Express on the otherhad is not widely accepted, thus prior purchase always ask if they accept Amex even if it says it accept credit...

Culture of the Filipino, Languages and Religion

by mlt_t

Culture of the FilipinosLike most Asians, the Filipino is greatly attached to their family, are clannish, and hold their elders in high esteem or obeisance. Hospitable and generous to their fault, and will spend their last peso to feed and entertain a guest in their home.LanguagesOfficial languages are Tagalog, English and Spanish, with some 87 dialects spoken in the country. Filipino is the national language but English is the key medium for professional transactions. The old elite speaks Spanish.ReligionFilipinos is deeply religious in a ritualistic and folksy way. Today, Filipinos are primarily Catholic in a way that delicately combines the old methods of relating to some of supernatural beliefs.
