Taxis

by zschachwitz

when returning to the airport, I was quoted P400 by taxi, and the driver kept the meter running (intentionally or not, I don't know); arriving at the airport it was showing P180. It might be worth a haggle, but only speaking English, I was out of my depth. Haggle? On the plus side, there's plenty of (covered) waiting area at the airport, which, unsurpisingly, is pretty manic if you arrive, as I did, in a thunderstorm an alternastive might be a jeepney - but if you have a lot of luggage, a taxy might be a better option

take local metered taxi

Any tourist can easily get lost in the surge of information he/she receives. On transportation, better get the local taxi and insist on metered travel rather than agreeing on a fixed rate. You can only agree on the fixed rate if you're well-researched or familiar on the places you're going. When taking a hotel transportation service, check with a local taxi service to get an idea how much a trip would cost. I almost fell bait to this when i tried to get a hotel taxi service (turned out to be sub-contracted) which costs 4 times the taxi fare i got via a local taxi company.
