Yes, jeepneys are a uniquely Pinoy creation, and Ilonggos do take their jeepneys very seriously - going the extra mile in producing what could be the most modern and most upbeat version of this Pinoy road Icon.
The jeepneys in Iloilo City are modern, sleek and simply fun to ride. Unlike their more colorful, more traditional Manila cousins, Iloilo City jeepneys sport a more modern look with their streamlined and well-polished exteriors and cozy interiors equipped with state-of-the-art audio systems to entertain riders.
In addition to aesthetics, the jeepneys also serve as important modes of inter-city trasportation linking the city center to the suburbs. They are the cheapest and most convenient way to get around the city and to tour the city sights - and even beyond!

you can get to iloilo city by plane, boat, or by RORO. RORO: Philtranco and Bachelor offer RORO trips to iloilo. The RORO fare ranges from 1,100 to 1,200, these are aircon trips, excluding meals. If you decide to take the boat, Negros Navigation and WG&A offer trips to Iloilo. Both shipping companies have web sites: The boat fare prices ranges PHP 900 to PHP 2,000, depends on the accommodation. Web site for NN: http://www.negrosnavigation.ph/index.shtml

The fastest way to get to Iloilo is by plane, fare costs around 2,000, i think. Air Philippines, Cebu Pacific, and Philippine Airlines offer Iloilo-Manila and vice-versa flights.

A relatively new taxi company, they give the impression of professionalism in handling difficult customers like me. Their fleet of taxis, mostly Toyota Innovas are new, clean and driven by a well-dressed and knowledgeable driver. I also noticed the driver's defensive driving skills. When one haggles for a fixed rate and tried the meter for good measure, you'll find that the difference is very little.
I also noticed a separate direct line for any complaints.

Like any other place, big and small in the Philippines, the most inexpensive way of going around is by jeepney. This vehicle was adapted to the jeeps used by American GIs during WW2.
Now it has taken several versions, showcasing Filipino creativity and innovation all through these years. Iloilo boasts of its own artsy jeepneys.
Taking a ride costs P7.50 to maximum 4km, with fare escalating depending on the distance of your destination.

Gerald, our guide also acted as our photographer. I highly recommend him for his excellent service. He’s also a very honest guy & knows the area very well. His contact # is 0908-4748122. Be sure to contact him in advance coz he’s popular with tourists. He’s really a nice fellow. My husband commented that he’s a good driver. He charges P1000 for a whole day tour. From Raymen to Jordan Pier, it’s P250.
I got a very warm welcome from him. He offered to carry our bags for us to the tricycle which will serve as our transport for the day.
It was really generous of him to add 3 more places before sending us to Jordan Pier for our trip back to Iloilo City.
We were sad to say goodbye to Gerald who was a good guy.

Island-hopping the Visayas Islands is easy and affordable with Roros plying the nearest point-to-point between islands. Coming from Bacolod and bound for Panay Island, Dumangas Port in Iloilo City is the nearest docking point. There are about 3 shipping companies serving the route. We took the Jomalia Shipping's M/V Mika Mari. It coud accomodate about 6 10-wheeler trucks and 6 also of cars/vans.
We paid P1300 for our van plus P75 per passenger for the 2 1/2 hour crossing. Btw, the port is about 10km drive to the City Center.

What is interesting in the Philippines is its public transportation means that come in various forms. Trains, buses, jeepneys, tricycles, pedicabs and even habal-habal (motorcycles using wooden platform that extend like wings for additional passengers) are all common transportation means in getting around and to the different places in the Philippines.
When you visit Iloilo, you'll notice how artistic Ilonggos are by heart because of the evident artistic modern transportation not only for city destinations but also for provincial areas. At first glance, one might think that an approaching headlight is a private car, only to find out that it's a PUJ (Public Utility Jeepney) all along!
When I get back, I'll try to take pictures of what I'm talking about so I can post it here. For the meantime, look it up in Google using the keyword "iloilo jeepney".
