Marvel at Mt. Mayon and Zipline on Lignon Hill

Lignon Hill is that hill that obstructs the perfect view of Mt. mayon when you get off your plane at the Legaspi Airport. A visit to Lignon Hill is often part of Legaspi City Tour package. But for those who are DIYers, there are two ways to get to the view deck on top of Lignon Hill. After visiting the Japanese Tunnel, you can either decide to hoof it, a good 20min walk uphill or take the habal-habal waiting at the foothill. As of last March 2011, the quoted price for habal-habal rental is P200/RT. Each habal-habal can accommodate 2 persons. There is actually a shorter way up, this will save you a lot of time and it's a cooler way to get to the view deck. BUT it's a little riskier and trickier. :) As you walk up the hill you will see a set of wooden stairs (looks rickety) on the right side of the road. Crawl into the Japanese Tunnel

There are organized tours that offer a visit to the Japanese Tunnel at the foot of Lignon Hill. It is worth visiting especially if you haven't seen any of the remnants of the Japanese occupation. According to locals the Japanese hid their arsenal in the tunnels during the later part of the WWII. Best of all there is a designated guide on site that will explain to visitors what the significance of the site is. There is a minimal fee that you have to pay to get past the gate to Lignon Hill and the Japanese Tunnel.

The Philippines Belong to the Pacific Ring of Fire (Pacific areas of Active Volcanoes) and has 22 active volcanoes at present. Among the Most popular Besided Tagaytay Volcano is the Mayon Volcano which is located in Albay Province. It is an almost Perfect Cone and stands at 8077 feet. It is a Stratovolcano. It is now in the race in for the new 7 wonders of the World (pls vote for it! (www.new7wonders.com/nature/en/nominees/asia/c/MayonVolcano/ ). Due to it's almost Perfect Cone, It is a tourist attraction and it rivals the beauty of other Cone Volcanoes like Mount Aetna in Italy and Mount Fuji in Japan.

Mayon Volcano National Park

Mayon Volcano National Park is popular with climbers, campers, day trippers and foreign tourist. The Mayon Volcano National Parks stands at 21 square miles (55 square km.) with Mayon Vocano at it's center. The park has large tracts of abaca plantations, Pili Nuts, Vegetables and has a number of Mini Hot Springs. Off Course the Center of the Park and it's Main Attraction is Mayon Volcano. There is a viewing area in the national park situated about 2,000 feet above sea level in a with a winding road going there. Entrance is free.

Cagsawa Ruins

the most famous catastrophy of Several Mayon Volcano Eruptions is the Cagsawa Ruins, Located in the Present town of Daraga. Cagsawa was a town then but in 1814, Mayon Volcano Suddenly erupted and Many people in the Town of Cagsawa tried to hide in the Roman Catholic Church but alas, like what happened in Pompeii Italy when Mount Vesuvius Erupted, Cagsawa town and the Church Were buried in Lahar and 1,200 people died. Today it is a poignant reminder of the Power of Mayon Volcano and the Ruins are the Most Photographed Site of Mayon Volcano. Entrance here is 10 pesos and there are lots of people selling souvenir stuff and trinkets.

Mayon Rest House Observatory (MRHO)

The Mayon Rest House Obervatory is the Nearest Observatory of the Volcano, it is located about 3.8 kilometers northwest of the summit and is the popular area for viewing the vlcano. It is located 2,000 feet above sea level and is connected by a winding road to Tabaco Town in Albay. The entrance is free and this is located in the middle of Mayon Volcano National Park.

ATV on foothills of Mayon Volcano

Riding an ATV itself is a wonderful experience but with the backdrop of Mayon Volcano, adds a whole lot to the experience. It takes about 3-4hrs for the whole ride. There is also a stop over where you could view the Mayon Volcano on a helipad on top of lava rocks. the view is just breath-taking. Downside? Price is a little steep, it cost 1800php for each person/atv but we we're able to haggle it to 1500php per atv since we're a big group.

Make It To Kapuntukan Hill

Often taken for granted because it is so near and more accessible than Lignon Hill, Kapuntukan Hill is a nice place which we missed. We always postponed going to Kapuntukan Hill, thinking it was very easy to go there because it was very near our hotel... Alas, the time and weather beat us to it. By the time we were free and wanted to go there, it was showering. We would have wanted to proceed to Kapuntunan Hill from Embarcador. We had planned to hike uphill to see the touted panoramic view of the Albay Gulf and the surrounding towns and islands, and take a shot of the breathtaking view of the entire city of Legaspi, with the majestic Mayon Volcano as background. Don't Miss The St. Raphael Parish Church

We passed by the St. Raphael Parish Church many times as we shuttled to and from the Legazpi Port District/central business district. We didn't give it much attention because it looked like a modern church structure (we prefer to visit ancient church structures). I learned only later that tourists pass by St. Raphael Church to see its unique attraction: an altar table made of solid hardened lava carved from a single block. It is not clear whether the original church built in 1834 used the same altar, or if the renovated church structure after the World War II used it.If you happen to be in Legaspi, don't miss the chance to pass by St. Raphael Parish Church to see its unique altar table.
