The best way, but not necessarily the cheapest, to go to Sagada is to go to Baguio via the Victory Bus. They have terminals in both Pasay and Cubao and they also have one in Dau, Pampanga. They have buses going to baguio several times a day and their terminal in Baguio is right at the upper session road - central but not busy. It takes about 6 hours to go from Manila to Baguio.
From the terminal, take a cab to Dangwa station and take the Lizardo or GL buses. Please consider that there is bus service almost every 1.5 hours starting at 5:30am till 1 pm only.

You must call them ahead of time and make a reservation. I made this mistake tonight. Everything was packed and I was even brought to the terminal by my dad only to find out that I couldn't leave because I needed a reservation. The bus was already full and there were even a lot of people waiting to get a seat.
Up until this time, there's only one company that plies the Manila-Bontoc route - Cable tours. And up to this very moment, there's only 1 trip per day.

Hi Asianbelle,
Thank you very much for your response. :) I was wondering if you had any contact numbers for Florida or if you know where they are located. I've been looking up information on the bus liners that you mentioned. I would still like to go straight to Bontoc and have just one transfer to Sagada from there. Would there be any other liners taking the Manila-Bontoc-Sagada route? Thank you very much! Any additional information regarding sightseeing would also be very much appreciated.

The Bus Schedule is posted in the tourism office BUT better check the availability of the Bus. Usually they skip the last trip going to Baguio during Christmas Day and New Years Day so you will see people taking the early trip. Yup! We missed our trip going home so we stayed in Sagada for one more night. No problem with us, Sagada is a home away from home.

The highway from Sagada to Baguio is the same as the highway from Bontoc to Baguio, which is the highest highway in the Philippines. The scenery along the journey is nice nice nice. If you are going from Bontoc/ Sagada towards Baguio, the views are on the left before arrived Benguet. After Benguet, more views on the right that left. But to me, the best view is half-one hour after Bontoc/Sagada, so I will prefer left side of window seat. And if you are traveling in the afternoon, the sunset is at your right. So consider what you want to see and choose your seat!

There is no direct public bus from Banaue to Sagada. You can either charter a jeepney/ van with other travelers or go to Bontoc and change the jeepney to Sagada.
To go to Bontoc from Banaue, the public jeepney leave the station at Banaue at 830am. If you missed that, you can still get a public bus plying the route at 1030am and 1pm. Wait for the bus on the main road, not the jeepney station. The price for public jeepney depends on the amount of people you have, it is usually between 150-250P.

Manila-Banaue-Bontoc-Sagada
Circa: Sep 2003 – Jan 2004
Autobus Terminal at España, Manila
To Banaue
Fee: 257 Php
Duration of trip: 9-10 hrs (Depends on how fast the driver drives and/or road conditions)
At the Autobus terminal Banaue, a fiera-type jeep bound for Bontoc awaits. Make sure you leave Manila at night so you'd get there early, as these jeeps are only available at specific times. If you don’t snag the first trip in the morning, you might wait for a few hrs until another one comes along (if there will be one). 1st trip would be around 8 am, or whatever time your bus arrives (usually the jeep waits for the arrival of the bus). I’d suggest you take the night trip (10:30 pm – or better call the bus company for the sched) so you’d arrive in Banaue around 8:30-9:00 am plus it’s faster since you’ll probably be asleep most of the time.
To Bontoc
Fee: 80 Php
Duration of trip: 2 hrs
The jeep will pass by the legendary rice terraces. It’s really spectacular! I can’t believe our ancestors built that! Moreover, the air is very fresh, there are no signs of smog nor smell of garbage or burning fuel. Just simply clean, fresh air. *sigh* The jeep will drop you off at the Bontoc Terminal (beside a restaurant). You can eat there if you like because the jeep going to Sagada won’t leave unless everyone’s already on board (or until it’s full). Also, the Sagada terminal is beside the restaurant so you don’t have to worry about being left behind. =)
To Sagada (at long last!)
Fee: 25 Php
Duration of trip: 2 hrs
We left Bontoc at 12 nn. It was still a bumpy and dusty ride. We passed through the mountains and atop one was so damn cold! I think it was the highest peak amongst the mountains there. Anyway, we arrived at Sagada at 2 pm.
When you reach Sagada, a line of vendors that sell fruits, vegetables, weave crafts, etc. will welcome you. You have to go to the municipal hall and pay a registration fee of 10 Php and they will give you a registration card.

if we apply the surface area of bus compare to a van i would say vans are a lot safer than bus you have more space away from the cliff if you'll take van. Plus you dont get to see how close the wheels are from the edge of the cliffs. But if you're in for adventure take the bus, its a lot fun. the thrill of sagada starts from the journey of getting there. (wink)
But if you really want to get there by van for reasons of convenience, make sure it will depart before 12pm. also make sure it's not raining. it's safer to travel in daylight and in dry land going to sagada.
Im sure it's safe, if the driver survive halsema highway once he must be a real good driver. hehehe. what more if he earned his liscence there? he must be a class 10 level driver. :P
